Need help on choosing a 1x12 cab

Hey guys.

I'm looking at buying a 1x12 speaker cab to go with my Orange AD30 Single Channel head.

The main 2 I'm looking into are:

Orange PPC112 - 1x12 cab with a Celestion G12K-100 speaker http://www.orangeamps.com/cabinets/1x12/

Award Session Pilot - 1x12 closed back cab with choice of Celestion speakers http://www.award-session.com/amplifiers_cabinets.html

Does anyone have any advice for me on Pros/Cons of each, which is made from better materials etc. I know this may be a simple question, but I know next to nothing about different speakers and cabinet materials :)

Thanks for any info.

Craig

Hey bro, we don't have the Orange 1x12's overhear yet but they 2x12 and 4x12's are killer cabs, not as good, IMO as the old Orange cabs but damn close. I would imagine that the 1x12 is no exception, however just keep in mind that the G12K-100 is not your typical celestion...good but just not what you might be used to if you use Celestion speakers already. I know nothing about the other cab you mentioned but I also have to tell you...the BEST sounding 1x12 I've heard latey was a wide body Mesa with a single 90 watt Black Shadow. It doesn't match your head but it was a killer cab!

Hello mate, thanks for your quick response.

I do have some experience with Celestions (G12M Heritage in my Marshall combo, 2 G75's in my Marshall 2x12 and 2 1970s Greenbacks in my Orange 4x12 cab), but how does the G12K-100 differ to those?

The Award Session cab is made by the same company that make the Award-Session Sessionette amps which you may've heard of?

I may opt for the Pilot cab with a Vintage 30, as I hear those speakers work great with Orange amps :)

Well, the G12K-100 has far more bottom end than any other Celestion and an overall harder tone to me. Lots of guys like Vintage 30's with their new Orange amps so that might be a good call...im not saying at all that the K-100 is a bad speaker it's just not a typical Celestion sound. I am betting that because its rated at 100 watts and has a ton of lows thats why Orange picked it for a 1x12...1x12 cabs can be very lacking in bass, Im betting that Orange is not.

If this speaker has alot of bass, I may actually skip it this time, as from my experience atleast, Orange amps have alot of bass themselves, so with a bass heavy speaker things could get mushy very quickly.

There's not that much difference between the Orange at £189 (made in China according to someone I spoke to at Orange) and the Award Session Pilot cab with V30 at around £155, but if I'm more likely to like the sound of the V30, then I may take that option over the matching cab :)

I just purchased this, I'll let you know how it sounds in two days when it comes in: http://www.mojomusicalsupply.com/item.asp?pid=18175&pg=44972&id=MOJOEXT

They're supposed to be big sounding 1x12s. The price is great, but I'm not sure how much extra they'd charge to ship to the UK... you might be better off with something like the Orange in that case.

Thanks for the link, but as you say, I'll have to pay a large shipping fee plus customs/import charges, so I think I'll give it a miss.

Thanks for the link though :)
