need help picking an OD/dist box for my Krank Chadwick combo

Hi,

well....I have a Chadwick combo that is a one channel amp. You can get a variety of great clean to overdriven sounds - unfortunately only one sound at a time :-)
So, I am looking for a pedal or some pedals to help turn the amp into a 3 channel(ish) monster.
The type of music my band plays is sort of heavy riff rock, grungy, think Sabbath, QotSA, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden etc. At the moment I am running the gain slightly and using a tubescreamer - this isn't really the sound I'm looking for. The TS colors the sound a little too much for rhythm although I like it for leads (I boost my sound with a Danelctro EQ pedal run through the fx loop).

Here's what I'd like to do: just start out with my amp - I want to run that sparkly clean (which it does very nicely) then have a really great heavy rhythm sound - overdriven, chunky, nice sustain and harmonics - then be able to switch to a lead sound that will cut through the mix.
I was wondering should I
a) just get a Rat - use it for rhythm then use the TS for lead?
b) get an Exotic BB+ pedal that will basically do it all (or a similar pedal)
c) get rid of the amp and get a 2 channel amp that has a boost built in (I have been looking at the Bogner Alchemist and am currently trying to sell my Krank combo on eBay)

any thoughtful suggestions/ideas will be greatfully recieved!

nevermind. i took my amp in to the local shop and checked out some pedals.

the BB+ has blown my mind. i now own it.

I was going to recommend the BB Preamp - I love it's clarity, and the way it reproduces the spaces between the notes. I get my cleans by rolling down the guitar volume, crunch from a small MArshall clone cranked up, and overdrive from the BB Preamp.

Since you were looking for three channels, the BB+ makes perfect sense. Enjoy it.

BTW, welcome to the forum. Post something in the Sound Room and tell us a bit about yourself, your music, and your gear.

thanks Rich S! I posted in the sound room. The BB+ is expensive but it's basically tone heaven. :)

check out the catalinbread super charged od. i just got one last week. so far i like it a lot. it has a good bit of gain on tap but you can roll it back and get some cool zz top type tones. before i bought mine i was told it was a marshall sounding pedal. but to me it sounds a little more like an orange.
