Need Help Please with a Hot Rails and stock Strat pups

I'm a newbie here and have a question that I hope one of you more knowledgeable ones can help me with. I have a stock CS 2007 relic Strat and bought a Hot Rails SHR-1b as I was just wanting to beef up my solos a bit. I saw on the installation instructions where it says: "If two pickups sound thin and nasal when used together, chances are, they’re out of phase with each other. If you’re combining your Seymour Duncan pickup(s) with Fender® pickup(s) in the same guitar, you’ll need to reverse the black and green wires on the Seymour Duncan. In other words, solder the black wire to ground and the green wire to the selector switch"........I'm just looking for a hotter bridge pup and want to not alter the neck and middle stock pups.

I'm just trying to save some time....can anyone tell me if this is the way to go. I plan on leaving the neck and middle pups stock as they sound great!

Thanks in advance for y'alls help! toneocaster

welcome to the forum!

use the green wire as hot and the black as ground and you should be all set. its very common to use the stock neck and middle pups and replace the wimpy sounding bridge unit

What ^ he said .. you'll be pleased with the results!

Don't be intimidated by the instructions.. what they're saying is that you just need to switch the black and green wires.. so that when you're in the #2 switch position, your pickups will be "in-phase".. has to do with direction of the copper winding and astro-physics.. blah blah blah..

In other words, if it sounds "funny" in the #2 position, try switching the wires the other way.. have fun! Hot Rails was my first mod I did and introduced me to SD pups back in 1986.. I have been hopelessly addicted ever since.

I had that exact setup until recently. I took a pic of the electronics before I put the stock pup back in.
It is no problem, the neck and middle will not be changed.

Thanx guys for the help.....the installation went well and it would have been eaiser if the bridge pickup rout would have been a bit deeper as I had to be creative in rerouting the wires, but they went and the pup sounds great. A BIG improvement over the stock pup. Looking forward to being a member and learning!! Thanx again!
