Need help. Strat style guitars

Hello!

I am looking at humbucker (neck and bridge) replacements for my two electric guitars.

The first is a alder body, all maple neck guitar in E Standard tuning. Scale length is 25.5".

I'm thinking of either a Pearly Gates set or Alnico Pro II set.

My second guitar is a mahogany bodied, Rosewood fretboard with a maple neck. 25.5" scale length. It is in Eb tuning.

Thinking about an Alnico Pro II set or a '59 set but I'm not sure about the almost non-existant mids.

Suggestions?

Re: Need help. Strat style guitars

Don't be afraid of the 59s in mahogony with rosewood fretboard. You can also swap magnets if it turns out not to have enough mids to your liking. The PGs or A2H's in the Alder strat should be fine.

Re: Need help. Strat style guitars

I've only had the PG's in my Strat...never the AII Pros. But I sure loved the AII Pros in the Les Paul I worked on a couple of weeks ago.

Either should be fine.

If you go with PG's and the PG's seem to bright to you (they don't to me) try them with 250K pots. If your guitar already has 250K pots I'd try it that way first.

This guy sure gets a great tone with the nickel covered PG in his Strat:

Regarding the AII Pros, they're basically a Duncan Jazz with an alnico 2 magnet.

Put an alnico 5 magnet in them and they become the Duncan Jazz.

What about Alnico pro II's in the mahogany one as well?

I should have mentioned I have a Vox AC4 and a '78 Custom Badass Distortion Pedal by MXR.

Re: Need help. Strat style guitars

I've grown to really like Alnico II pickups, others please correct me if I'm wrong/you disagree, but Alnico IIs seem to have a really nice clean sound and require dirt from the amp/processor.

Re: Need help. Strat style guitars

FYI, I have a set of Alnico IIs in a semi-hollow strat with a Mahogany body and Spruce top, Maple neck with Rosewood fretboard. It sounds amazing through my Marshall amp, my dad's Vox Valvetronix, and the best through my POD.

59s or PGs absolutely rock in strats in my experience. Never tried the A2s

Cool good to know.

Never heard of a semi hollow strat.

I've seen mixed reviews of the single coil versons of the ALIIs, but most are for les paul style guitars in tge humbucker version

Thanks! This guitar turned out better than could have ever hoped! No paint, oil rubbed finish and light nitro seal on the headstock. I put her at the best I've ever played–the Alnico II's sound brilliant clean and she takes dirt very well. Great sustain but thats probably mostly due to the solid steel block and semi-hollow body.
