need help with dimarzio pup selection

I have just put some SDs (JB and 2 classic stack plus) pups in an old Ibanez, and they sound fantastic. In fact they sound better than my new Ibanez RGT320Q. Its mahogony with a maple cap, and has 2 IBZ Dimarzios (high output humbuckers) which I find to be OK, but a bit dull.

So Im looking to replace them with 2 other Dimarzios. Id like something diverse, and play hard rock, rock, blues. I love Steve Morse's tone, particularily his clean tones. For distorted sounds, I like something big and sustaining, but more blusey than metal sounding, maybe like Gary Moore in Still Got the Blues. Id also like some nice quack in the even positions.

What would you guru's suggest?

I'd go with Duncans over DiMarzios, but that's just me.

I'm going to go the Virtual PAF set in my Les Paul soon (Virtual Hot PAF bridge / Virtual PAF neck) because that's meant to be a good combination. Apparently they split really well too so you might be able to get some quack too...without routing the guitar to take a middle single coil that is

...unless it's somehow already got a middle pickup in it?

Read my reviews about the VHPAF VPAF too.

I had a set in my Goldtop. In a word, PHENOMENAL! A friend of mine heard it and made me an offer on the spot I couldn't refuse.

I have another set in my Epi Dot. Again, PHENOMENAL!

You're making a wise choice!

I do recommend the "F" spacing for the VHPAF (bridge pickup) though. DiMarzio standard spaced pickups have narrower polepiece spacing than Duncan's standard spaced do. The same holds true with DiMarzio "F" spacing being narrower than Duncan's Trembucker spacing. DiMarzio "F" spaced pickups have the same polepiece distance as Gibson bridge position HBs (example: 490T, 500T, etc).

I use the VHPAF in the bridge and a Bluesbucker in the neck and really like them.Cleans are great on both, especially the Bluesbucker is just like a fat single coil.I think the VHPAF should fit your requirement of something that rocks hard, but still bluesy.

I must say that I have noticed the Dimarzio flavor(a slight aww sound) even in these pickups, but nothing too pronounced.Really nice and articulate tone without any kind of crazy frequency bias.
