Need help with my Strat pickups, pretty please.

Hey guys, I started playing guitar about a year ago and have truly dedicated myself to it since then.

I play on a Fender Squier Fat Strat, all info on the guitar here: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Squier-Standard-Fat-Strat-Electric-Guitar?sku=510445

So, to the problem. I play this guitar through a Peavey Triple X amp and even though it sounds good, it doesnt sound nearly as good as when i play with an actual Fender Telecaster with Seymour Duncan PU's.

My style of playing goes from Hard Blues to Classic Rock and indie rock in the likes of The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, White Stripes.

Help me please, the quantity of humbuckers and pickups is making me dizzy
(keep in mind the fat strat comes stock with a bridge humbucker and 2 single coil pickups).

Thank you

ok, what would you like to change?
the single coils, the humbucker?
what do you don't like about them and how would you like your guitar to sound?
are you interested in any mods to the humbucker? (coil splits, spin-a-splits)
i'm no pro or expert but i guess i could help you a little.

Re: Need help with my Strat pickups, pretty please.

Hey, thanks for replying.

Im looking to change the humbucker and both PU's. I suppose I want the guitar to sound heavy on the bridge humbucker (not heavy metal heavy mind you) and have somewhat of a cleaner tone on the PU's neck position.

Here's some of my influences:

The Door and the
White Stripes for Hard Blues/Rock

Pink Floyd for Classic/Blues/Psy Rock

The Strokes
The Arctic Monkeys - Indie Rock

Thanks again

Welcome to the forum.

To begin with the obvious, if an American Standard Telecaster fitted with Seymour Duncan pickups DID NOT sound and play better than a Squier, a lot of purchasers would be severely p***ed off.

Just to set the ball rolling, I am going to nominate some pickups. Other members will doubtless chip in with infinitely better suggestions for your consideration.

B - Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates Plus
M - Seymour Duncan Five-Two
N - Seymour Duncan Five-Two RP/RW.

No. I haven't gone mad. I do mean RP/RW in the neck position. My favourite bridge position single coil is the Twangbanger. Its polarity and winding is the same as the majority of RP/RW centre position Stratocaster single coils. Hence, I have to fit the regular and RP/RW Five-Two pickups in the "wrong" positions to get the noise-cancelling selections to work properly.

Thank you for the feedback, Funkfingers. Im going to let this thread linger a while and as you said yourself, wait for more people to give me their opinions and then try to find some middle ground on the choice.

Thanks again
