Need help with OCD gas !

Re: Need help with OCD gas !

To chime in on the Monte Allums Tri-Gain Rectifier mod, I have that mod on my DS-1 and recorded clips of it, both with P90s and a Stratocaster.

You can listen to those demos in good quality audio here:

P90 PRS

Stratocaster

I hope that gives you an idea of what the pedal / mod really sounds like.

Modded and refined MXR Dist+ and Grey DOD 250....Voodoolab made a version too...
Nothing fancy, nor new.
Just tweaked stuff.....as it again usually is...why reinvent the wheel?
Just make it rounder;)

Re: Need help with OCD gas !

Oh wow, it amazing that it sound so different/transparent when compared the dod and mxr, shows you what a few tweaks can do tonewise...

if I ever get a chance, I would love to try this allegedly rounder wheel :D

Re: Need help with OCD gas !

i think we put the Cool Cat vs. the OCD to rest yesterday afternoon...OCD for the WIN!!!

I would not say the OCD won. For me. I liked how the OCD was a bit smoother and there was more gain on tap. If i had a choice between the 2, i would rather have the OCD on my board but if i was a 16 year old kid that wanted a nice OD that sounded alot like the OCD. I would be completely happy with the $25 Dano cool cat drive.

O.K. I've violated my self imposed ban on buying products made in a peoples republic of dictatorships.:butkick: ( Politics are banned here, So lets not go there!) .I got a cool cat CO-1.Here Is My review. The 1st and most obvious distinction is the CO-1 doesn't have a HP/LP switch . This is not a problem for me being I do not intend to use it as a boost into a already HI-gain amp. Next . The tone knob on the OCD has a much smoother tapper. Either way you turn it, It won't sound bad, While the CO-1 goes from mud to brittle in extreme setting (around 11: o'clock seems to match up w/t the OCD) The VOL & Drive knobs seem (To my ears) to respond the same. I find only subtle differences in the amount of drive on hand. The OCD has a smoother tapper,And maybe a hair more transparency. NOW ! You can make sound clips until your blue in the face ! For me it's a feel thing. Both pedals hit the nail on the head! They both deliver that thick ,warm ,harmonic tone generally associated w/t a good tube amp being driven into overdrive, But without having to rattle your walls,As well as being very touch sensitive to your picking dynamics. As Rid said " Nobody reinvented the wheel here" Just make it rounder. No doubt the OCD is a better product, But the CO-1 will hold the fort until you can afford a OCD.:D
BTW, I'm thinking the true litmus test here would be to A/B them into Solid State amps, But I don't own one.:naughty:
