Need ideas for my next build

I am getting ready to do the yearly build for my blog and I don't want to do another Strat or Tele. I was thinking of doing something retro and funky with upgraded electronics. I really want to do something different. Any ideas for body style, finish or whatever would be appreciated. I have some ideas but nothing is wowing me just yet.

I was thinking of going with a Rick 620 shell. Stripping it, routing it for hums and spraying it gold-top.

If you're routing it for hums, I've got a new wiring scheme that I'm working the final "bugs" out of this week.
It's simple. It's clean. It's killer.

(And yes, a Slutbucker is involved.)

What about an Ovation Breadwinner style body :D I lament my father selling his for $200 on feebay a couple of years ago :(

I would love to but even the AS-IS Ovations have been going for ridiculous money these days.

This I would be interested in seeing big time

Oh man, we're gonna need to make a slutbucker mandatory on this build.

The part have yet to be decided but that could be an option.

Re: Need ideas for my next build

I'll try to get this done before the week is over. I just hate to post a diagram before I've tried it for myself.
I prefer to be my own Guinea Pig. ;)

Thanks Artie I am still in the planning stages. The last build took me 5 months.

Yeah, they seem to have gone thru the roof in prices the last time I checked. My dad's was identical the white one pictured above–Ebony fingerboard and the guitar sounded and played amazing.

Perhaps the Rick 620 is the way to go? I never noticed it but I think the Charvel Surfcaster has the same/similar headstock in reverse.

Edit: The older Surfcaster, not the new ones.

always thought those surfcasters were cool. if you get along with the rick neck then go for that. the shape doesnt work for me at all though

Re: Need ideas for my next build

Kurt Ballou played something like that for years, his had EMG's. I don't know if this is actually his or not, but here:

I like the thought of a 620 hot-rodded, always loved the shape of the body...

Re: Need ideas for my next build

And I always loved that color... that blue... don't change it... please... pretty please?

Yeah I am leaning that way though I do like the Chavel.

God knows what the condition of the husk I find is in. I will most likely have to refinish. I am thinking of maybe going with a Goldtop or Silvertop. A red sparkle candy finish would also be cool on one of those. Some high output pickups and a Kahler might also be in order.

I've always been intrigued by Goldtops and Silvertops. I think Goldtops look best on Les Pauls and think of the Silverbursts as best on T-Birds. On that pic you posted I think a Silverburst would look really nice but almost think Gold would be better with the fretboard...

Whatever you decide, should be an awesome project!
