I'm at a crossroads in my amp/cabinet assembly. I have most of the plans for my Marshall cabs ironed out, yet I'm not really sure about the 2x12 Bassman cabinet.
I had just ordered two of the Emi Red Fangs to put into the 2x12 Bassman cabinet to be used with a 2x12 '66 Bassman head.
I just discovered that I am going to want to use one of the'Fangs for my little 30 watt Class A British EL84 amp.
That leaves me with one Red Fang to use and one speaker I need to come up with to use together with the Fang in the 2x12..follow me so far?..
Okay, I guess I need to ask Eminence what Ceramic speaker they reccomend pairing with an Alnico Red Fang.
Nows the part where I'm a little lost and need some direction.
I've been thinking about pairing a Jensen , like a P12Q with the Red Fang. I havent checked the sensitivity on the Jensen, but I dont think pairing up Jensens and Eminince Red Coats is a great idea?
Maybe there IS a Emi Patriot jensen voiced speaker that would pair well with a Emi redcoat. I'll ask , maybe call Eminence.
Has anyone had any scusess pairing a Celestion with a Jensen? I havent been able to locate much about this, so I'm guessing its not a great idea.
Finally, what would be your recomendation for putting in a 2x12 Fender cabinet with a Bassman head? Would it be Jensen P12Q's, rated at 40 watts? Would it be the Red Fang British Voiced rated at 50 watts each? Ive thought about a V30?G12H30 mix, but decided I'd rather go with the AlnicoEmi's or the Jensens. I'm also thinking about the Jensen "Jet" Alnico.
In general, just judging by the clips Ive heard, the Jensens are much better sounding clean, which isnt the Bassmans forte', and the British Fangs/Golds /Blues are better for the overdrioven tweeds/JTM/Blackface Bassman sounds.
