I know this would be better suited for tips and clips but I need to get as much info as possible in the shortest amount of time so I apologize in advance...

First mic purchase...will be used mainly for recording my guitar amp..both clean and distorted.

Rode NT 1A

or..

Shure SM57

I need any info but I got like 45 mins....

Thanks all !!!

Re: Need mic advise fast!

SM57 is a pretty standard mic in these parts. Great mic. The SM57 and Sennheiser E609 have both worked very well for me.

Re: Need mic advise fast!

Audix OM2 or Sennheiser 609 Silver.

Either ones $100 and is a "better" mic then an SM57.

At least I use 'em for anything & everything I'd ever use a 57 on and I dig the sound of 'em more.

YMMV.

SM57 is always a safe bet though.

Nuff said....thanks so much guys!

The Rode is out and that was the one that was pressing me for time.

J Moose what in your opinion makes those other mics better that the 57?

They sound more 'open' & generally more pleasing then a 57 which always sounds muffled & murky/peaky to me. I have four 57s here in case I ever need 'em but I never use 'em for much. Sometimes a hammer...

The OM2 also has a much tighter pattern & is pretty much unbreakable...I've dropped 'em 7 or 8 feet onto a concrete floor and they bounce.

Drop a 57 or 58 that far and it's either dented or broken!

Thanks for all the info in such a short time! (especially the turntable reminder)

I'll check out the Audix and the sennheiser as well.

Cheers to you guys. As always the people here make this the best music related forum around. :beerchug:

Re: Need mic advise fast!

sm57 or audix i5 are very safe bets. I've had good luck with 57's and y'know... if it ain't broke don't fix it ;)
