need pickups for my les paul

Re: need pickups for my les paul

Dude...you need to chill. That is blasphemy. And if you are French, it's only going to go worse for you....

A PG was MADE to recreate the sound of one of the holiest of holies in LP tone. And if you can't play AC/DC with it you need to get off the board and practice!!!!

Are you really French?

Well to be honest i got into Duncan's very recently so i don't know everything about it. I know more about Di Marzio's. So i really thought the pearly gates was a Strat humbucker...
I mean it's confusing, they use the same name !

But a friend of mine know the guy who created this system that makes Billy Gibbons guitar turn around during the show u know ?

Well believe it or not, this guy is french ^^

I don't like to admit it but i am French also.
The problem being French people don't seem to know what rock and roll is.............
I mean on the radio you hear "yeah, and now rock and roll" and it's U2 or Hotel California............

It's all good man! We're all here to learn and help, and you're doing a great job by jumping in. You never know unless you ask.

Well the Duncan names can be somewhat confusing. Custom, Custom Custom, Custom 5, PG, PG+ :eek13:

That's cool about the spinning guitar system though!

You and Pierre should meet up and talk about being French! He sees Germans in his nightmares he says! :laugh2:

All apologies then Lemonman - Here in the US The Reverend Billy G. is a well known tone monster. He's in a great little band called ZZ Top! Check out their fist few albums or an early greatest hits. That's the sound of a Les Paul and a PG. Have Mercy!

Re: need pickups for my les paul

For whatever reason they passed over the 59B and decided to put an A5 magnet in a Pearly Gates. I think the PG+'s also have the consistently hotter winds of the +/- 5% tolerance that the pups are able to have and still be "correct".
Luke

Actually, it's not just a PG with an A5 mag. SD won't list the specs, but here's what they will say.

The Pearly Gates is rather different than the "Pearly Gates Plus" that is on the Lone Star StratTM. The Pearly Gates Plus is only available on that guitar and not made for retail sales. The main difference in these pickups is that a Pearly Gates has Alnico II magnets, while the Pearly Gates Plus has Alnico V magnets. Alnico V magnets tend to give a brighter, glassier tone, while Alnico II magnets tend to have a warmer, rounder, more mid-rangier tone. The closest pickup available in our regular line to a Pearly Gates Plus is a '59 Model with 4-conductor cable. The '59 is an Alnico V pickup with a wind very close to that of the Pearly Gates Plus. The '59 usually comes in single conductor cable, but it can be ordered with the 4-Conductor wiring option.

You're in good shape, then. And jumping in like this and making mistakes is the best way to learn. You'll be an expert, soon.

Then you won't have to call yourself French. :D

As a 42 year old American I'm quite familiar with ZZTop and Pearly Gates, thank you very much:) I think you meant Orange, as I've not been involved in this discussion. Carry on, nothing to see here!
