need pups for LP AND 335!

hey guys i need some suggestions. i just picked up 2 epi elite guitars. 1 is a 335 style and 1 is the LP custom. both are getting new pickups and RS guitarworks wiring. i THINK i'm interested in seths and antiquities...i think...maybe. i don't want to get 2 sets of the same kind just because thats how i am haha. the 335 will be my main slide guitar. i play bluesy classic hard rock (sticky fingers, rocks, highway to hell, and appetite for destruction are my favorite albums). would the ants or seths be better for the 335 or LP? just to give you guys some more info i play through a teese picture wah and analogman beano into an a/b out to an ac30 and jtm45. i'm torn about which set for which guitar. help a brother out, please.

Re: need pups for LP AND 335!

If it were me, I'd put the Seths or Antiquities in the LP. Then I'd put a Jazz/'59 set in the 335 since it is a darker guitar. I'll bet most of the bros here will suggest something completely different :laugh2:. A lot of them like the Seths or Antiquities in a 335. And actually, since you want the 335 to be the slide guitar, that would make sense (they have a little more midrange, which you'll want for slide.)

If you notice my sig, I have the Jazz/'59 set in my Epi LP. I think it is a great combo.

I can't agree that the 335 is a darker guitar. The 335 style instruments I have had are typically a bit brighter than a LP. The new Yamaha I picked up certainly is.

I own an Epi LP standard and it is brighter than the Epi Dot I tried out. Since we're talking different models YMMV.

i think i might try the ants in the 335 and seths in the paul. i think the ants might give me a smoother tone for slide while the seths will give me more bite in the LP. does that sound good?

Re: need pups for LP AND 335!

I have a set of Antiquity's in my R8 and couldn't happier with that guitar. If I had a 335 it would get Seths...I played a 59 reissue 335 a while back with Seths and thet guitar had the tone I always thought a 335 should sound like so thats what I would do!

I'd put a nickel CC/Seth N in the 335

Custom 5/59 nickel in the LP.

That way, you'll have a vintage set in each guitar with a slightly meatier bridge in each. A2 in the 335 and A5 in the Les Paul. Those have been some of my favorite combos in Gibsons.

Re: need pups for LP AND 335!

i just realized something that totally makes my mind up for me: antiquities don't come in gold covers stock. seths do. seths for the LP custom, ants for the 335. perfect. i'm not going with CC's or anything because i want to get as authentic as possible. i get plenty of gain from my beano and ac30/jtm45 setup so i don't need higher output. plus: the p90 in my lp jr (lollar) is unpotted and are around 8.8. these humbuckers will match up well output wise and they're unpotted for a more authentic tone. i think i'm going to be very very happy. thanks.

Re: need pups for LP AND 335!

also, i'm putting in RS guitarworks wiring in both axes so hopefully that will get rid of a lot of the possible too bright/too dark problems by giving me a more true sound. i've had good results with them before. also, i think the ants should really sing through the beano when i play slide. i use a dunlop joe perry slide and than can be a bit bright so hopefully the antiquities aged sound will make everything balance well and really sing. does this sound good to you guys?
