need replacement pick up for P-90

I am interested in buying one of the Gibson Faded Double Cut Les Pauls, but for the music I play the P-90 won't cut it. Also, I have been informed that in order to put a true humbucker in the bridge I'd have to have the body routed out in order to accomodate the larger pickup. Is there a way around this? Does Seymore Duncan make a high output humbucker to replace P-90's? If somebody can help you can reply here, send me a private message, or email me at humbucker311@hotmail.com. Also, if anybody has a LP Double cut they would like to part with for a good price, let me know....later...

The Seymourized Mini humbucker will drop into a soapbar cavity and have a fat humbucker sound to it.

Check out the Stacked p-90 from SD

YES!! I agree that a hot minihumbucker would sound good, however, the P-90 Stack has the P-90 look, which I think is very cool. Plus, it's loud and fat.

Re: need replacement pick up for P-90

I am interested in this guitar because 1) I don't have the money to buy a 1500+ dollar Double Cut and 2) I love the way neck feels and how it plays. The Faded Series is a good way for someone like me, who doesn't have a ton of money, to afford an actual Gibson Les Paul. Sure I could spend about the same and get an Epiphone LP, but then it wouldn't be an actual Gibson....so ya know..

That faded series LP Double Cut with the P-90s has a seriously cool vibe to it. Regardless of it were $5000 or $5.00. I'll continue my support of the P-90 Stacks. There are some cool wiring options with them as well. Again, they're loud and fat with a not-so-vintage sound.

Good choice in guitar dude. I had two faded series, which ultimately were sold and I upgraded to Studios, but they are great bang for the buck! They play extremely each and are solidly built. Good luck with the pickup search....

Re: need replacement pick up for P-90

Yeah I've been looking for a new guitar from quite some time and have even considered a couple of guitars from Agile guitars. They make top-shelf quality copies for next to nothing, but it just wouldn't be the same as having a good old true Gibson. After reading the thread thats linked above, I found out that EMG makes an active replacement pickup for the P-90 called the P-81, which obviously is the P-90 version of the 81. If I can find some sound bytes somewhere to hear it, thats probably the way I'll go. I plan on using this guitar in a metal/hardcore band and I haven't found anything thats any hotter than an active EMG. If anybody else has other suggestions, as Ross Perot once said," I'm all ears." Later...

Re: need replacement pick up for P-90

just so ya know, if you put emgs in, itll work best if you replace both pups since mixing active and passive can be troublesome

Re: need replacement pick up for P-90

Oh yeah....the plan is to replace both PIckups with EMG's....anybody know how much they cost? I haven't been able to find any prices online.....

Re: need replacement pick up for P-90

humbucker311, if you get the EMGs (and I hope you will :D), please post some sound bytes. I might want to pick up another P-90 guitar just for those EMG's just like I bought my Peavey just to use for the P90 Super Distortion I bought in advance..

Re: need replacement pick up for P-90

I would be happy to post some sound bytes, but I have no idea how to do that. Plus I don't think I have the software or even the hardware for that....my computer is steam powered....LOL....
