Re: Need some advice: anybody ever play any high end Ovations?
As Hellion pointed out, everybody's ears are different. I've had some people swear that their Takamines were better guitars than any Taylors, Gibsons, or Martins. Others have sworn it's Guild etc. Fact is, I like Takamines, I like Taylors, I do like a few Gibsons here or there and I do like Guilds. There's not many acoustics I can say I wouldn't play.
I've always been drawn to guitar designers who are trying to evolutionize a certain product. Ovations have sitka spruce on them, but the way their necks and backs are constructed, they seem virtually indestructible. I like the comfort of knowing the neck won't warp on an instrument I paid so much money for. I like the thought of gigging with a guitar that will sound the same night after night (something someone complained about after gigging with a 410CE Taylor).
The new LX series is supposed to be the regular models on crack: bigger, fuller, louder, better low end and the new pickup system sounds like it's one of the best on the market, it's just not priced as such. This just might be the way to go without heading into the Adamas line (which I'm sure are amazing guitars as Mincer pointed out).
Tomorrow, hopefully I can find atleast one place that has it for me to try it out and if no luck, I'm going to order one blindly (I've heard good things about Ovation QC, unlike a favorite brand on here
).
