Need some guidance on distortion pedal

Hi all, I'm new here
:) :fing25:
I'm a beginner and need some info on distortion pedal.
1. Why do people invest a fortune for a decent amp but still need a distortion pedal for their tone?

2. If I have a dist. pedal, should I connect it thru the clean or the drive channel? If its the latter, how do we go abot to set the gain/level? Or can it be connected thru the effect loop?

3. If I have a multieffect processor, should I connect it to the effect loop or straight to the front jack?

Please help, I'm all confused!! :smack:

Re: Need some guidance on distortion pedal

People get distortion pedals to get a sound different from their amp's distortion. I'm using a Dime Distortion to get the kind of tone Dimebag had. You should almost always put the distortion pedal to the clean channel. If you attach it to the overdrive channel, you will likely have a lot of extra noise you don't want, but you can get a helluva lot of gain which makes tapping solos easy. As for the processor, put it in the effects loop.

Hope this helps! If you want any tips dont be afraid to PM me; i just started playing in september. Best of luck!

Cheers FukiSan...but if connect the multieffects thru the effect loop, I should deactivate its distortion and eq, right??

Re: Need some guidance on distortion pedal

Yep, my advice is just use the effects of the pedals and processors instead of the amp distortion. Either use one or the other.

Re: Need some guidance on distortion pedal

Or use the pedal to push the amp harder. I only have a single channel Fender amp so all my distortion comes from pedals, but some people use a dist pedal to push their drive channel harder for solos etc.

Re: Need some guidance on distortion pedal

I use distortion pedals because the natural overdriven tones from my amp suck. It was never designed for anything but cleans.
