Need Some Help....Possible Blown Speakers???

I think I may have cratered my 2 new 12" Hellatones. Looking for some guidance on my setup to make sure I didn't do something wrong....and if I did, I don't want to do it again! I'm sure you will find some of my questions rather stupid, but thats why I'm coming here for some direction from people who know what the hell they are doing.....cause I don't!

Heres my rig:

Marshall AVT50 Head

Old 2-12 cab with new 30 watt, 16ohm Hellatones (Avatar's 'SUSPENDED' Celestions). The way the speakers are wired is directly from the jack (pos & neg wires) into one speaker and then seperate pos & neg wires piggy backed to the other speaker.

Is this the correct way to wire the speakers? Is this setup now 8ohms? (I never have been able to understand the 'ohm' thing) And do I now have 60 watts of handling capability from the 2 speakers?

I have not turned the volume past halfway on the head. But I now get this noise that sounds like a small buzz/rattle of a blown speaker. It's not really apparent until I chunk and mute a low E chord. But now that it's caught my attention I can hear it near all the time.

What is your diagnosis? Are they blown? Did I wire it incorrectly?

Please HELP!

Yes, this is correct for 8 ohms total. Disconnect the speakers completely from all wiring. Do you have a meter you can measure the impedance with? Put it to the lowest ohms range and measure across each speaker separately. You should get about 12-16 ohms. If that's okay, gently and evenly push in on the cone with your fingers spread out. Do you here any rubbing? Does it move easily and smoothly? If this all checks out, redo your wiring and then measure the total cabinet impedance closest to the cab input jack. That should be about 5-8 ohms. If it all checks out, try it with the amp again.

Good luck,
Noth
