Need some info on "spin a split' configuration

How's it going?

I am putting in a hotrails pickup in the bridge postion in my strat, and wanted the coil split to have the option of single or humbucker. Someone here recomended the 'spin a split' configuration. I looked at the specs. It says you use the tone knob to control the level of splitting. Does this mean that the tone knob no longer affects the tone on the guitar? Does the tone knob still work normally when using other pickups on the guitar that are not going to be coil split? What does it sound like? How close to real single coil sound does the splitting achieve?

Basically you have to give up one of your pots (knobs) to wire in the Spin-A-Split permanently. Whether it's a tone or volume pot doesn't matter, as long as you're okay with it.

A possible compromise is to put in a push/pull pot (or other switch) and wire it so you can SWITCH the function of the pot from tone pot to Spin-A-Split.
