Need some PUP opinions

I have a G&L Legacy Special Strat. It came with stock rail humbuckers. The neck PUP craped out and I had it rewound, only to have it crap out again a year later. I replaced it with a Cool Rails (neck). Now i want to swap out the other two. I'm thinking this configuration.

Cool Rails - Neck
Lil' 59 Neck - Middle
Hot Rails - Bridge

I play fusion, light jazz and some blues.

Thoughts?

Welcome to the forum!

Another option is

Litl 59- Neck
Cool Rails Neck - Middle
Hot Rails - Bridge

This might be slightly more versatile, while keeping some sounds that you had before. The Hot Rails might be too hot for light jazz and blues...it is great for mid-heavy fusion, though, Any of these options more or less abandon the Strat sound in the neck or bridge, but that seems like the point, here.

Re: Need some PUP opinions

Sounds good to me, you can even run a cool rails or little 59 in the bridge if you don't want the extra output in the bridge

Re: Need some PUP opinions

Could also do:
Neck - Cool Rails
Middle - Vintage Rails
Bridge - Hot Rails

This will give a definitive contrast in the middle pickup and will give a little more "quack" to the in between positions. The bridge Hot Rails is pretty beefy though, I loved it for punk and metal, you might need to back off to the Cool Rails bridge version or little 59.

Re: Need some PUP opinions

I had a Strat with Darkside's pickup combo, it also had a series/parallel switch to give it a somewhat more traditional strat tone. A very versatile setup.

Re: Need some PUP opinions

Hi everyone. Thanks to all for the input. I went with my original idea and I couldn't be happier. It offers a wide range of sounds and I'm actually using all combinations, instead of just a couple. I had a mini toggle added to split the neck and mid and and a push-pull added to split the mid and bridge. Apparently, you can't split three pups with one switch. Who knew?

Re: Need some PUP opinions

Haha, it depends on the switch. If there are enough poles, you can!
