I have a sm57 with the yellow and green wires disconnected from the contacts where you can see if you unscrew the top from the bottom half; that's what happens if you get curious. The microphone works if I hold the wires onto the contacts. I would prefer a solid contact rather than do it the ghetto way and use electrical tape to hold the connection.

I need someone to solder the wires back onto the contacts and check for correctness. I will be paying for the shipping to you and back to me. I am willing to pay a reasonable amount as it should be easy job, basically soldering on 2 wires. I would prefer a reputable forum member to do the work for me.

To any NYC forum members if you are in NYC area it would great if you could meet me somewhere to do it.

Oooo I love soldering. Wish I could do it all day. Why not do it yourself man? Shouldn't take but a minute.

I don't want to screw it up, but if you think a beginner could do this please send me some links or information to start this project. BTW I have no experience soldering.

Here ya go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLfXXRfRIzY

That'll give you a basic idea of what to do. It's super easy, especially that job that you have there. Give it a shot! You can get a decent little soldering iron for about $7 and some solder for about $4. It's a fun thing to learn and it'll save ya lots of money in the end. Good luck dude!

It's cheaper than shipping and a GREAT skill to have as a guitar player.

Re: Need someone to repair sm57

60/40 rosin core solder

not plumbing solder

let iron get hot

"tin" the tip of the iron
by touching a bit of the solder to the tip so that it melts and coats the end of the tip
(edit: most new irons come with a coat of varnish or oil to keep the tip from rusting , a light abrasive will remove this and make tinning much easier)

then hold the wire in place ( not with tip of iron - needle nose pliers work well )

hold iron to wire and contact point
touch solder to the point where the wire and contact point and iron meet

when solder gets hot enough it will turn liquid and "flow" over the contact point
remove iron
solder will harden in less than a second but is still hot be careful let cool

( if the solder beads into little balls the its just not good tinning )

Re: Need someone to repair sm57

I decided to buy a solder and try this myself, looks easy enough for me. Thanks for the help guys.
