the surfers are degaussed so they are a little darker than some, i find the ssl1 to be brighter and a little snappier. i still prefer the surfers though, my fender amps are bright enough all on their own

The SSL-1s or 2s would be an awesome choice, or even the Five Two, which keeps the fullness on the high strings (A2 magnets), but the brightness on the lows (A5).
