need suggestions for chimey / treble-heavy speakers

i've recently been doing some speaker-swapping with my amps / cabs, and i'm now left with a couple weber speakers in my ampeg v4 cab. these speakers in this cab are VERY heavy on the low-end and i really want to get a couple of speakers to try and balance things out tonally.

i'm really interested in a pair of speakers that have nice chime and high-end presence. if said speakers sacrifice any low-end for said chime, i am completely fine with this, as the webers can cover that with ease.

any suggestions for something in this ballpark are quite welcome. i'm guessing i will be looking into the alnico-zone for this, but i am really open to anything at this point.

oh, i should also clarify i will need 2 8-ohm 12" speakers for this project.

I have never thought of speakers as being "chimey" whatever that means. (I always think of the amp-guitar-player as chimey)
Bright and treble dominant maybe.....but whatever.
The Eminence Wizard offers a lot of high end AND good bass response.
For the early 1960's chime of Sonny and Cher, The Beach Boys, and the king of chime.....The Byrds... try a Jangle Box.

The eminence screamin' eagle has lots of clarity and treble and a tight bass. I tried one back when I had a little blackheart 5W amp, but it took "the blanket" off the amp for sure without being piercing.

I would say look a the Retro 30 or Blackhawk Alnico from Warehouse Guitar Speakers website. The Wizard from Eminence is also a good choice for high end.

i was just looking at the retro 30, actually. its going to be really hard to not bite the bullet on a pair of those, given their reviews and price.

I'm actually about to buy a Retro 30 to replace my stock 70/80 speaker because like you I want more chime and clarity for my cleans. My second choice was a Reaper HP but I like the Retro better for my needs.

There will be, I'm sure, a whole lot of people selling off stock fender speakers due to a lot of natural top-end to them. This would be my first pick.

What can make alnico speakers chimey is how they compress a little (especially VOX/Celestion blues) but I say that is much more amp and guitar than speaker as most AC30s can sound chimey through greenbacks which have a lot less high end. I'd look at low wattage (high enough to handle) alnicos either Celestion style or Jensen especially on the brighter sides of the scale. What weber speakers are they?

i can't remember the exact model, but i believe the webers are the chi12f model. they were not particularly bassy in my fender twin, but are super low-end heavy in my cabinet (tight, closed back cab as opposed to the open-back of the twin).

i fully understand that chime is much more amp-related than just the speakers, but i'm looking for something that has better capacity to produce that top end and can work to provide some balance with those webers (i.e. should i ever decide to put my twin through that cab, or use another nice clean-style head with it, i'd like to know the natural chime / top end isn't going to be overwhelmed by the low end).

of course, given the apparent nature of this cabinet, anything i put in may still be pretty heavy-handed with the low frequencies, so i may eventually get rid of the webers (depending on how things work out here). for now, i'm hoping the WGS speakers can be at least a good step in the right direction.
