Hello I am looking to buy a thin acoustic around $300-$500 I need it to be thin because I can't play standard one because they are to big for me and I really want to get an acoustic but I need a thin one so if you guys have one or know of some around this price please help me out...

Re: Need to find thin acoustic... help!

I am a bit unsure of the exact model but my friend has a ibanez nylon acoustic that is rather thin. Its a great player and it cost under $350 new.

Re: Need to find thin acoustic... help!

I have an Ibanez Steve Vai model EP5 I absolutly love. Super thin and an amazingly great tone.

Here is the review.

Re: Need to find thin acoustic... help!

All of the thin acoustics that I have played have sounded pretty bad unless they were plugged in. I ended up picking up an Epi Chet Atkins that I love for plugged in acoustic-electric work. A similar solid-top acoustic might be worth looking into.

Re: Need to find thin acoustic... help!

I have not been impressed with the Stratocoustic, but at least they don't cost much.

Ibanez has a ton of options for thin-bodied acoustics. I absolutely love my Talman acoustic. It is small, comfortable, beautiful, and sounds great. It's also well within your budget, even with a quilted top.

Re: Need to find thin acoustic... help!

Thanks I will look into ibanez its hard to judge from a computer though if its thin or thick

Re: Need to find thin acoustic... help!

If you are trying to avoid electricity or the weight of an electric disregard the rest of this post.....

If the only concern is body thickness then.......
One option is to use your favorite electric with an Acoustic Simulator. The Behringer AM400 sounds pretty good. It's not perfect, none of them are, but it's pretty good. You can also try the Guitar Rig Software or other Guitar DSP tools to shape the tone for Acoustic simulation. It'll play as easy as an electric - because it is - but it will sound like an acoustic. For the most part. You'll still be able to tell it's not an acoustic, but try it I think you'll be impressed. I like the sound of the Behringer. For the price it's worth a try.

Good Luck

Re: Need to find thin acoustic... help!

The Ovation Celebrity Thin Body. I play one of those. A cool option not mentioned would be a Kramer Ferrington. The Dean Exhibnition is a good choice.

Others have been mentioned already.

As said though, the sound will blow. I run mine through a batch of Pedals to make righteous acoustic tones (Monte Allums modded Boss Compressor, Zoom A2 set to D28 Model, and Aphex Acoustic Exciter). And as RTS mentioned; I get a KILLER acoustic sim out of my Roland Cube using a Les Paul with a Super Distortion and a PAF blended just so, judicious EQ, and a goodly dash of reverb.

Re: Need to find thin acoustic... help!

I have electric guitars and I want an acoustic guitar since they sound amazing etc and I wasn't a fan of the acoustic simulator sound and I cannot physically play a normal size acoustic guitar so I need a slimmer one to play so thanks for the suggestion but I looked into it already. So I am really interested in the Ibanez SAGE SGE220 it's affordable but I am not exactly sure if its thin how can I tell if a acoustic is slim online?

Re: Need to find thin acoustic... help!

I could be wrong, but I think the SAGE SGE220 is a full size guitar. It is described as a "full bodied dreadnaught."

The Talman Acoustic that I suggested is thinner and smaller than most acoustics, but fatter than a Stratocoustic. The body also tapers slightly toward the neck. This gives it a different, "less full" tone. In other words, it's kind of twangy, but in a good way. You can see the shape a little better in this photo of someone else's guitar:

The best thing to do, though, is to visit your local music store and play a few guitars. You won't know which one is right for you unless you hold a few for yourself.

Re: Need to find thin acoustic... help!

the body of the acoustic is how it projects air
and thus tone

the thinner the body, the less air, less projection, Less tone

if you want the righteous acoustic tones then you need the full bodied acoustic

if you cant play one then you will inevitably end up
with some kind of simulator to fill out that sound

just buy a better (less cheap) simulator

there is a decent simulator on my floor pedal (GNX 3000)
on my roland cube
boss makes one in a pedal as doe the ones mentioned above

the compromise is yours

learn to play one
or learn to fake one

Love that guitar Doc.

Re: Need to find thin acoustic... help!

Not that I don't want to play a full body acoustic its the fact that I AM PHYSICALLY UNABLE TO so I need to get a thin one >:( and there is something about a pedal that doesn't seem right and the Talman I can't find in Ottawa unless I ordered it online but I am going to Long & Mcquade tomorrow to try some after my lesson so yeah...

Like I said try the Ibanez Steve Vai model EP5 it has a super thin body and an electric style neck. However, the tone is incredible on the guitar, acoustic or plugged in.

See if you can find a Chet Atkins Gibson or Epihone. They come in a few different configurations. Here is one I found with a quick search
