Need to replace a Seth Lover - HELP!

I just picked up a 1997 Brian Moore DC1-P (Les Paul type) that came with Gold covered Seth Lover pups. Although they sound sweet when I play slow stuff they sound very compressed and mushy when I wail. My perfect tone would be somewhere between Shawn Lane, Eric Johnson, and Gary Moore's screaming blues. Any suggestions on what I should install in the neck position? I really hope I can get something Gold covered too. THANKS.

Here's a picture of the guitar. She's a beauty!

The alnico 2 Seth is very similar to the humbucker that came in 57 & 58 Les Pauls and many 59's too. It's probable that the pickups in Gary Moore's Les Paul are actually very close to the Seth you already have.

Seth's have smoother highs and softer bass than the alnico 5 Duncan 59...maybe you'd like the Duncan 59 better...it has more bass and more bite. It would be closer to the alnico 5 pickup in a 60's ES-335 like Eric Johnson's.

Beautiful Guitar!

Thanks Lew,

Would the 59 or Alnico provide better articulation for very fast blazing? Also, are they available with gold covers?

I guess the 59B might be slightly more articulate, because it seems to have less midrange ( or at least clearer mids ) and the highs seem brighter with more upper harmonics on the 59.

However, the Seth has less bass and that can lead to a more articulate tone tone too, which is why I use a Seth neck humbucker instead of a Jazz or 59N.

I have not had a Seth B and 59B in the same guitar, so I'd be guessing.

You know what I'd do with a guitar like that? For an ax like that it'd be worth going with some Antiquitys...either the Ant I alnico II or Ant II alnico 5...or some HB's from the Custom Shop.

Maybe alnico 2 in the neck and alnico 5 in the bridge.

I'd contact MJ in the Duncan Custom Shop about winding you a set of Custom Shop Antquitys.

The Custom Shop pickups are handwound by either MJ or Seymour himself.

I have an Antiquity HB bridge for sale...(aged nickel cover but you can swap it for a gold one)

OK, after more research and a bunch of answers from various forums I'm going with (both Gold Covered - yeah) a JB for the bridge and a Jazz for the neck. I've also ordered a megaswitch from Stewmac so I'll have some coil splitting options too.

My best guitar is about to get even better!!!! One last picture love that design:
