Needing a new amp

currently have a 5150 combo and a Fender "The Twin". The sound I want to create has somewhat changed, and I'm finding the 5150 to be too much gain for me. I use the Fender for mostly clean and some light grit, but for the stage I really only need clean, a good rhythm grit, and a nice lead boost(which I can create with a pedal or volume knob).
So it comes down to me wanting a new amp. I want a good tube overdrive, but less saturation than the 5150. I've looked at the Valveking, Windsor, and Classic 30 Heads with matching cabs. The Valveking looks really appealing, with the clean, texture, gain boost, and volume boost. The Windsor worries me with only one channel, but I would probably keep the Fender for cleans. The Classic 30 sounds really good to me, but the shared EQ and low wattage worry me for larger gigs.
Besides the obvious (Windsor is for British tones, Valveking has texture control, Classic is bluesy, etc.) what can you all give me in terms of advice? Would really love to hear what you have to say.
As for my influences (someone's bound to ask) Aerosmith, Jeff Beck, the 70s rock vein mostly. I would really love the ability to use dynamics and push the front end of the amp more, with a nice power tube saturation. I guess I'm looking for a nice "classic" sounding amp that gives me a chance for new sounds.
My budget is under $1000, which closes out most Marshalls and Fenders, Mesas, etc.
Sorry if I rambled, it's a really big decision, as I am currently playing with a few groups and it has to fit them all.

Re: Needing a new amp

Traynor makes a few nice amps I'd put in both the classic sound category as well as the budget category. Also, our resident amp maker, Scott_F runs Celtic Amplifiers, both his Edana (Marshall) and Franklin (Vox/Matchless) would work pretty nicely, especially with a good OD or boost.

Check out some Laney amps, amazing variety of tones available from them. Musicians friend is just now starting to stock them.

My advice is to buy used and get more for your money. You'll also lose less money on resale if your taste/needs change again and you decide to sell.

Laney's, less metal mesa's (lonestar series) or vintage sounding crates (V3112 etc) or like suggested Celtic Amplifiers (If i didnt live so far away in australia they would be my number choice to try out)

Re: Needing a new amp

The Celtic Edana looks really good, but is it only as a head? If so, it's a bit out of my budget, because I'd still need a cab.
