Hi everybody.
I'm about to buy 4 new speakers for a Bassman LTD. I'm really tired of those thin and ice picky sounding Jensen and wanna go with new more efficent speakers.
I want to buy Eminence speakers; after talking with them, they suggested me their Ramrod 10'' speaker. Warm, very efficent, clean and clear. They said it will work great for the rockabilly and old country music I play.
Does anybody have experience with this speaker?
The new speakers really have to be warmer, louder and cleaner than the jensens: I really don't like cone distortion, and when I play live, the Jensens can't handle power.
What can you suggest me?

:thanks:

Well in my Vibrolux Reverb I use Weber 10F125s and they smoke. You could get the AlNiCo version of those which would be the 10A125 and I think you would be very pleased.

Re: New 10'' speakers for my Bassman

If I had a tweed Bassman and I were getting new speakers I'd get Webers...I'd put 2 10F125's (ceramic) in it as well as 2 10A100T's (alnico)...

The 10F125's are real similar to a mid 60's Jensen C10N and the 10A100T's are very similar to 50's Jensen P10R's...GREAT MIX!!!

I use one of each in my 2x10 tweed Super and couldn't be happier...you get the classic reedy honky tone fromt he alnicos and a cleaner firm bottom end wiht lots of punch from the ceramics!

Re: New 10'' speakers for my Bassman

the ramrod has all the qualitys that you are asking for. its more efficient, warmer, and cleaner than the new jensen p10r's they put in the ltd. should be a big improvement. the webers are a great option too

Re: New 10'' speakers for my Bassman

I've heard/played a reissue bassman with Emi Copperheads in it. That was one phenominal sounding bassman. Other than the copperheads and good NOS tubes, the amp was bone stock. One heck of a good tone to build a wicked pedal board off of.

Re: New 10'' speakers for my Bassman

i used to have an ltd and its a good amp. the amp is biased pretty cold so its worth while to bias it a little hotter

Re: New 10'' speakers for my Bassman

My head is similar to an old Bassman. My 4x10 cab has Eminence Legend 105s in it. They make the Legend 102 as their intended replacement for classic Fenders, but I like the modernized sound of the 105.

Re: New 10'' speakers for my Bassman

:) Thanks guys!

"VIBROLUX" and "the guy who invented fire": I know Weber makes great speakers, but I'm pretty sure I'm going Eminence this time. I really like the efficiency of their speaker, even if they are not so faithful to the vintage originals as Weber are.

Now, the only doubt is... are the Copperheads better than the Ramrods...?

The guy I talked with at Eminence told me that if I find the original Jensen too bright, I'd better go with the Ramrods, cleaner and more difined.
Before talking with him I was gonna order 4 Copperheads, but now the Ramrod seems a good consideration...

:scratchch

You need to talk to Brisk about what he did with his bassman. HotSeXJ played it also and he can offer you a second opinion on what we both heard and played. I doubt that you could go wrong with either, but I wouldn't call the copperheads harsh. They were smooth as silk to my ears. Could be the NOS tubes helped smooth things out as well...
