The tone sounds pretty decent.
I'll second the drum machine recommendation.
And I will recommend, for improving playing and phrasing, learn licks and complete solos from CD's. In fact, I'd recommend starting with some blues. Buddy Guy, Otis Rush, or even Eric Clapton. The phrasing and taste you'll pick up from them will carry over into rock.
