Have several EL 84 amps that have been my go to grab and go rigs but got really sick of the reliability issue with the 84's. Had one suddenly red plate a power tube just a month or so again and always carry a couple extra EL 84's when I'm gigging out with these amps, in particular the Mesa EL 84 amps as they run so hot. . Was looking for a small, compact rig that had ether 6L6's or 6V6's for more headroom and better reliability. Went through several amps, but never really bonded with anything. Needed a 2 channel amp with a great clean usable crunch and a transparent effects loop.
A local shop had a super clean Sonzera at a good price, so I snagged it last week.
I see using this one as a pedal platform, mostly with a Nobels and a compressor, then my verb ad delay in the loop for small worship gigs. The cleans are absolutely spectacular on this amp, very warm clear and full!. The crunch sounds a lot like my PRS Custom 50 head and is also very nice, but is a little over the top for most of what I Wil likely be using this one for... Super easy to dial in with a lot more headroom than the EL 84 amps, plus is pretty light and compact.
Now have my Mesa F 30 on Marketplace and will keep the Zinky.and the Jet City.
