New Amp Day x 2 - Apparently I've become a "Kustom" Guy - Kustom '36 Coupe & Lead II

I've been looking for a tube combo amp for a while now. Really was looking at the Peavey Classics (older tweed ones that look like Fenders once you remove the Peavey Logo) and toying with ponying up the bucks for a Mesa 5:50. But, yesterday I was perusing CL and ran across a Kustom '36 Coupe for $375.00 just down the street from me. Did my due diligence in reseaching reviews (Guitar World & Vintage Guitar) as well as several forums (TDPRI being one that really liked 'em) and several retail user review sites and youtube clips and then went and tried the little beast out. Same designer (James Brown) as the Peavey Classic Series (remember I LOVED the Peavey Blues Classic) and apparently the next evolution of the design. Most definitely a rocking little beast!!!

1975 Kustom II Lead 2x12 w/Celestioin G12T 75W - Got tired of plugging into a Behringer Thunderbird 1x8" Practice Amp so I dropped $125 at MGR on a 1975 Kustom II Lead 2x12 with Celestions in it. 60W, 2 channels with a High/Low Input for each and a Bright Function, Tremolo (Speed & Depth Controls) and Reverb. Takes to pedals quite well actually, but it really has a killer clean/jazz comping chord sound to it much like a Roland JC. Really quite a bit of amp for the money and much better for practicing enjoyment.

That's some interesting stuff about the Kustom tube amps. I like the sound of the Classic too, so I may have to sniff one of these off-brand amps out. I was listening to CCR on the drive home today and got a G.A.S. for a Kustom in tuck-n-roll too. heheh

The '36 Coupe is a great amp. I nearly bought one a couple years ago. Very underrated.

I played through my brother's '36 Coupe amp at a jam, and was pretty impressed. It also has tremelo AND vibrato, unlike most amps. I would pick one up if I found a deal on it. They also made a more high powered version.

I had looked for a while and was impressed with the little bugger after reviewing it and getting to "plug and play" it for a bit in person...enough that I brought it home. Actually sat down and spent a half hour playing through each one last night and decided that I have No Buyer's Remorse on either one...the Lead II was a No Brainer and pretty much the same conclusion w/the '36 Coupe!!! Win:Win for me. ;)

Yeah, Kustom made a '72 Coupe as well and then introduced a smaller Sport Coupe. After owning a '78 Marshall JMP 2x12 that weighed 78 lbs for the last 15 years...the portability of the '36 is a bit of a shock as well as having all the tone and versatility in such a small sturdy box.
