New amp (More Mission Amps content!)

Ok guys...it's not 100% done yet, Im still waiting on speakers from Weber VST but here is my newest amp! This is a hand built PTP clone of a early 50's 5B4 Fender Super...it's an amazing amp!

I ordered the chassis from Bruce at Mission amps and I have to say...he was a pleasure to deal with the his work is better that top notch...he used all killer parts and the quality of work would make Leo proud!

Go to my webshots page...it's the album titled Mission Amps 5B4 clone.

Feel free to look at everything else as well...I updated everything today!

As for the amp, I can't say enough good about it or Bruce as well as Will at Armadillo Amp works who made the cab for it.

I will be posting an early review tomorrow but I really want to run it with the correct speakers before I say too much.

FWIW...I tried it through my 4x12 cab as well as the 2x10's in my Lux and so far Im blown away...This amp rocks!

A HUGE thanks to Bruce at Mission amps as well as Will at Armadillo...I can't recommend these 2 guys enough!

I could see myself getting several more amps from Bruce...this amp is stunning!

DUDE.....that is HOT !!!

I'm not sure I dig the metal plate on the front....kind of detracts from the beauty, but I guess ya' gotta protect that angle.

Looking good!!!! :32:

Re: New amp (More Mission Amps content!)

~~~~~Ssweetness!
~~~~~Secksie NOS t00bs, too!

Re: New amp (More Mission Amps content!)

cool lookin' amp bro! how much did it cost ya? i played an amp that looked like that today, but it was an original one, not sure the model or anything, but it was a Fender with that type of cabinet. sweet soundin amp

Re: New amp (More Mission Amps content!)

Thanks guys!

Foamy: Bruce is top notch and it showed in his choice of NOS tubes, and super high quality stuff!

Flank: Im think that the early 50's Supers might be the only V front like that but Im not positive...if you played through an early 50's Super it's the same amp...so far I love it. I want to really get it finished up with some nice speakers soon!

Re: New amp (More Mission Amps content!)

Looks great. I'm glad to see he's gone to carbon comp resistors. His kits a few years ago were all carbon film resistors. His work is always flawless. You should love this amp long time, long time.

Re: New amp (More Mission Amps content!)

now, that is a nice amp

tweed amps are cool

Re: New amp (More Mission Amps content!)

Scott...Im sure you know but the parts in this amp are amazing, the trannys are huge (and heavy as hell) and the workmanship is out of this world...I have owned a lot of amps over the years from cheap junk to nice high dollar amps to vintage amps of all kinds and I have to say that the qualityu of this amp is second to none...It's at least as nice as anything that says Victoria on it for a lot less money!

Gary...This is a nice amp...nice as hell! I think you'd love it for sure!
I can't wwait to get some speakers for it...the amp and cab were done a bit sooner than I thought they would be so I hadn't ordered speakers yet, hopefully I can get the speakers soon, then this amp will be done...I can't wait!

Don't let the Rev G see that thing ... he'll want it!

Re: New amp (More Mission Amps content!)

Thanks guys!

Yeah...Billy would love this amp...it's got the tone for sure!

Ill tell you guys this...if you're looking for Tweed tone and can't stand the idea of buying a vintage Fender (or just can't find one) you owe it to yourself to call Bruce and get an amp...I have played several different tweed clones by different companies and this amp is everybit as nice as a Voctoria or a Kendrick and the price tag is much easier to swallow not to mention Bruce is one of the nicest guys to deal with ever!

Re: New amp (More Mission Amps content!)

Sorry for being thick, but ... is this a KIT, or did you buy the finished product?

Re: New amp (More Mission Amps content!)

congrats! .... enjoy!

please educate a noob ... is that a channel switcher? i see it has 2 volume knobs ... or is it a pre and post(mv)? ... howzit work?

thanks

Re: New amp (More Mission Amps content!)

Hoss: Thanks brother...it's every bit as nice as it looks...even with my crappy pics!

TO: I was gonna do a kit but decided not to, so I ordered a finished chassis from Bruce and since Bruce doesn't really offer this model (due to the odd ball cab) I ordered the cab from Armadillo Amp Works and now Im just waiting on speakers...so it's not really a kit but there is some assembly required! That said, most of what Bruce does is finished/plug and play amps. In fact, my next amp from Bruce will be done when I get it!

T4D: Like most of the early tweeds it is a 2 channel amp (notice the 4 imputs...one high and one low for each channel) one channel is a "bright" channel and the other is "normal". You have a volume control for each channel and a single common tone control that works on both channels...very simple and very effective!

sounds awesome ... do you use an a/b/y switch with it? or something else to take advantage of the channels? or is it a "one-at-a-time/either-or" kinda deal?

and amen to the single tone control ... when i played the celtic franklin, i was an instant convert to the 'less is more' mantra, especially when it comes to vintagey goodness (my '52ri tele-clone straight in)

enjoy & play in good health

ps - is this the kinda thing that you can put an sfx-03 in front of and turn it into a 3 ch monster?

Re: New amp (More Mission Amps content!)

t4d,

in addition, the two tone controls are interactive, so the second channel setting affects the gain characteristics

I'm not sure about the Super, because the circuit is different, but on a Deluxe, they reach full volume around half way, then add gain from there. However, newer pots have a slightly different taper than the old ones.

also, I'm not sure if jumping the two channels works the same on this one as it does on a Bassman
