New amp (More Mission Amps content!)

What speakers are you gonna load it with? Did I miss that info?

In my '51 Super I have one original '56 Jensen P10R and one original Jensen C10N. The C10N tightens up the bass and mids and really compliments the P10R.

Ted Weber makes a P10RT that sound svery similar to the '56 P10R and Ted's C10Q is actually very, very similar to my '66 C10N.

That's the speaker combo I recommended to Christian and I think it's what he has on order.

Well, speaking of speakers I have been having the hardest time with Weber since they are moving to a different shop so I was gonna try to order Monday but I actually just talked with Bruce and Im getting a set of speakers from him Monday! Just like Lew said...one 10A100T and one 10F125...should be killer!!!

I put that exact combination in my buddy's '54 Super...and it DOES sound killer! :laugh2:

Christian: you are going to have such a good time with this amp!

Well...so you know, this amp is dead stock off the schematic...I didn't opt for any of the hot rods or mods that Bruce does to them...I wanted to get a feel for the amp as Leo drew it first and then change something if I wanted to. The only real thing I messed with was the speakers and the depth of the cab...Mine is a bit deeper than a vintage Fender would be and I did go for the mix and match speaker set up both you and Bruce raved about...I think I'll love it!

Re: New amp (More Mission Amps content!)

How did I miss this thread?????

Now THATS a friggin Tweed amp Bro!

old Tweeds (or clones) are the only Fender amps that gives me GAS.. thanks Christian  :laugh2:

I love the angled front...I think that's just so cool and "50s".

This thread is worthless without clips though :D

And I agree....I think this Amp needs a black beauty with P90s run through it..or a Korina V with some buckas :laugh2:

Re: New amp (More Mission Amps content!)

Thanks Jeff! I had tweed GAS for a very long time but I have to say the wait was worth every minute. As soon as the speakers for it get here I will be putting it through it paces and then I think that for the first time Im actually gonna post some clips! This is an amazing amp and while I don't own a Black Beauty or anything with P-90's I'll tell you it rips with a Telecaster (and a Strat as well) and I don't have a V but I do have my Limba/Korina Moderne loaded with a set of PG's and thats a great sound as well!

Yeah..this type of amp is def more suited (I feel) to a Tele.

The Moderne would be jes fine too (BTW, you have one of THOSE, and yet a Dean series 2 headstock is "not you"?????? :eek13: LMAO :D)

Hahaha...I had a feeling you'd mention that!

I love the Moderne "Gumby" head but the big Dean just looks like...I don't know what it looks like but it just doesn't do it for me...

I hear ya..I was a bit put off by it at first too...but when ya reach up there and feel that sucker shaking like an earthquake...you realize there's more to it than looks.

The only thing I don't like still about it is that it's bigger than it seems when you are playing so it's easy to turn or move around and hit it on something...it's like having a big @$$ and trying to squeeze your way through people in a crowd...You don't realize its that big til people start getting knocked over :laugh2:

Re: New amp (More Mission Amps content!)

while it may be far from my style it still looks cool as hell and looks well made for sure! enjoy it man!!

when I got my new tele, I played through several amps, and was reminded of something I knew, but had forgotten: vintage type strats and teles excel with the type of amps they were originally voiced with!

it's almost as if they become a single instrument, and an extension of your mind and hands

Re: New amp (More Mission Amps content!)

Thanks Mike...I know it's not your bag but Im glad someone else can look at it and see the quality and the hard work that went into this amp. I see myself playing this amp for along time to come as well as a few more of Bruce's amps!

Gary...it's so funny you said it like that, I was talking to Luke (Duke) on the phone last night, he asked about the amp and I told him that it was almost like the amp and the guitar became one big instrument...it really is like that...you get to use the guitar to play the amp!

That is so true, of the several guitars that I've tried with my little Silvertone it sounds it's best with my Tele. Almost like they were supposed to be together.

Agreed....

no doubt there's something "extra" there when pairing Fender w/ Fender. One of the best experiences I ever had playing was an old 59 Bassman and early 60s Strat. Far from my normal choice in gear, but good gawd that was an awesome thing to experience.

Although not designed for them obviously, I personally think the same holds true of Gibson(esque)/Marshall...there is just something on another level you cannot get with a Strat or Tele or Superstrat or whatever through a Marshall. Not that they sound bad...but they don't have that "extra connection".

Christian you def gotta post clips bro,.

Re: New amp (More Mission Amps content!)

How come I can only fine a 5E3 at mission amps and not a 5B4 - what am I missing here?

Re: New amp (More Mission Amps content!)

Jeff,

I should have the corect speakes middle of this comming week and then IM gonna try to record a few things.

Steve: Bruce offers a 5E3 Deluxe kit but will also do custom kits if you want. Drop him an Email and tell him what you are looking for. I started to build it myself but I would rather spend my spare time actually playing guitar so I asked Bruce about just buying a complete chassis and not only was the work better than top notch (as are all the parts involved) but Bruce was a pleasure to deal with and a hell of a nice guy. Bruce is also offereing the Aurora which is his own design and very well might be my next amp! If you want something done, drop him an email and see what he tells you. I am 100% happy with the work that Bruce did and can already tell you that he will be doing more work for me in the future!
