Re: New amp (More Mission Amps content!)

The spakers came in today...the amp is finished!

I have to tell you guys...this is hands down one of the best amps I have ever played through. There was a pretty good thread with pics and all about my Mission Amps 5B4 clone that Bruce made for me but the speakers got here today. I went with Bruce and Lew's suggestions and I have to say...WOW! I had tried the amp through a 4x12 closed back with Fanes as well as the speakers in my other combos and then a 1x12 not even in a cab and was still amazed with the tone of this amp. The speakers I got are Webers, a 10A100T and a 10F125. This amp has a great clean tone and the most beautiful OD ever. When you start to really push the amp you get this nice woody/reed like honk and the tone that is simply amazing. The amp just fills the whole room with an electric quality I have only experienced with a few other amps in my life. I have got to put the Mission Amps logo on anf then I'll take a few more pics and as we speak I am working on a few sound clips (which I never do but this amp sounds killer).

I hope that soon I can post some pics with the amp completely done and then as soon as I get finished I'll pots either some straight sound clips or maybe a tune or 2 using it.

Exactly! I love that woody/reed like honk of my Super! That is a perfect description. We're hearing things the same way bro! Lew

Re: New amp (More Mission Amps content!)

Christian has described these amps perfectly. All you need is a guitar and cord...no effects are needed. You do it all with your pick and touch and control clean to overdrive with your guitar's volume control. That's my kind of amp...no complicated channel switching crud or angry bumble bee buzz. Just soulful sustaining blues/rock tone to the max. All of my old Fender amps are modded a little (or alot!) to play like that...all except my Matchless amps, which kind of do that on thier own without mods.

Christian wrote me and said "Now I know what you mean when you say you can squeeze out notes like toothpaste from a tube!"

Re: New amp (More Mission Amps content!)

Guys this is a simply amazing amp...the circut is great and Bruce really did a fantastic job putting it all together...using top notch parts, killer transformers and great work/ The cab is beautiful and sounds great too...you can hear the cab resonating, and these Weber speakers just set it off...I am in the middle of recording a few things and Im gonna try to sneak in a bit if time to do a few clips and to be hoenst I think Im gonna redo some parts with the Super...as soon as I get them done I'll post them!

Re: New amp (More Mission Amps content!)

Cool amp---love the v-front. There's a sound you get with those 6SC7's that nothing else will do---fat, woody, none of that glassy 12AY/AX stuff. The metal 'meatball' RCA's and Sylvania (a little cheaper than the glass varieties) also sound pretty good in those circuits and not too bad for microphonics.
Enjoy it...
