New amp opinions/suggestions: Splawn Vs Egnater

Re: New amp opinions/suggestions: Splawn Vs Egnater

I've never used a VHT/Fryette as they're not awfully common over here as far as I know.

They're 1 of those rbands of amps that I've always heard great things about but never used myself.

I was in a band with another guitar player who had a Pittbull UL and it was freakin' incredible. A complex circuit with the 3 channels, all the switches, and the active graphic EQ, but extremely toneful and versatile.

Later (in DoB), Sean had a Deliverance 120... and I have to say, it was even better. All the sounds that you could get with the Pittbull's switches and modes and channels were packed inside the D-120 and you could get to them ALL with your guitar's volume knob. Dead simple amp. Just my style.

I'll probably grab a Deliverance 60 one day...

Brow, you had any luck with finding anything yet?

I believe he's made an arrangement to meet the guy with the Bogner soon. Should find out soon!!!

Nope, haven't tried anything in person since the RR JMP and the Cornford Roadhouse a few weeks ago :banghead:

This is true, atleast it was the last time I had an email off the seller!

He's meant to be back from work abroad on Monday 23rd, so he said I could pick the amp up in person from Manchester on Saturday 28th August. I haven't heard from him in a few weeks though, so hopefully this is still the case! :D

I really hope it goes through as I could do without having to add £700 to my budget to get my other joint 1st choice, the Splawn QR :friday:

I really didn't think it would be this difficult to spend this sorta cash on an amp! :dunno:

But for some strange reason it is, unless you've got the time, energy and petrol to go all around the country trying amps.

I'd just like to point out that during the time this thread has been going, I've bought another Splawn. :saeek:

That's where I got really lucky with the JTM45. I was able to try the amp at Don's, then he graciously let me take it away and try it, then wait for the payment once I decided I wanted it.

I shudder to think the hours and petrol it would have taken to find the right amp, as I might not necessarily have tried a JTM45.

That's just cold blooded. I can see Brow doing this :banghead::banghead::banghead: right now after reading your post and seeing the pix.

That's true!

There's pretty much no shops within an hour or so of me, if not further!

I'm going to Sounds Great in Cheadle on Tuesday to finally try out the Splawn though :friday:

Yep, now why can't I find anyone I know on a forum to sell me a Splawn or Bogner for cheap :D

Yep, pretty much! :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Re: New amp opinions/suggestions: Splawn Vs Egnater

Yep, thing is, I already have a good ole Marshall and it isn't doing it for me :D It's missing 'something' and I can't quite put my finger on it. It's recently been revalved and serviced but something is just missing if you know what I mean?

Plus it's not really versatile enough for me so I'd still need a few drive pedals to cover everything I need.

That is because new Marshalls are not that great unless you spend the money for the limited editions or signature models. Splawn and Bogner do Marshall better than Marshall. So does Egnater.
What did you end up with in the end of your search?????

I am looking to grab another amp now as well and have it down to the Fryette SigX head or a Splawn Quick Rod head or Splawn Street Rod combo.

Wow, this thread is a blast from the past!

The Marshall I mentioned that I have that didn't do it for me is a mid/late 1980s JCM800 2210 100w Split Channel head. I've had it since I was 15 as I found it cheap, and it's always sounded good but it has since been superseded.

After this thread I eventually got a Splawn Quick Rod (newer model with the FX Loop Master Volume) and have also since gotten a Soldano SLO clone (not 100% stock) built by Toe-Knee on this forum.
