New amp purchase... feeling nervous

Re: New amp purchase... feeling nervous

Twins are probably the best pedal platform every designed, that is why you will find them in almost every recording studio on the planet. They are super lush with modulation and take to gain and boost fantastically. Not sure if you know this but input 1 on each channel is hotter than input 2. I typically run my gain into the first input if I am going for heavy grind.

Re: New amp purchase... feeling nervous

Congrats on the Twin! A SF Twin was my gig amp for some years. A Tube Screamer, a hot Humbucker, and a couple of Celestion speakers brought out the rawk!

I also have always thought that they had a sweet low volume clean. Enjoy!

Re: New amp purchase... feeling nervous

I love a SF Twin with pedals. If I were gigging with an old Fender, I might opt for a Pro Reverb due to weight, but if I had a Twin, I'd do just fine.

Re: New amp purchase... feeling nervous

Thanks guys, for all of the positive support. My best friend (who is much better at guitar than myself) was over the house last night, and he tried out. He sound soooooo amazing through it. He played my ibanez prestige s series (with and air norton and super dist). The tone he was getting was really one for the books. I hadn’t tried it with humbuckers until last night, but wow, though, it sounded sweet.

For craps and giggles, we plugged into my dsl after, and that amp was also sounding really good. Completely dif sound from the fender, though.

It’s still strange to me how i really did not like the zendrive through the dsl but love it pushing the fender. Seems kinda strange but seems consistant with stuff i’ve been reading online.

Thrilled w/ this amp!

Re: New amp purchase... feeling nervous

It’s funny the way things work out. I was originally sold on the BF because i usually don’t mind paying a little extra if it means it’s gonna be better. It just so happened they were sold out of the BF so i clicked into the SF description and everything in the description (especially the bassman tonestack and the description that said it was designed with pedals in mind) sounded more up my alley so i went with the SF. So, yeah, i think i made the right decision and i also saved myself $150. Win/win. Feeling lucky i read both descriptions closely before deciding :). Powerful lesson to research thoroughly and not make assumptions when making big purchases

That’s interesting to know. Thank you!!

Re: New amp purchase... feeling nervous

The Fender Twin Reverb still rules! Great choice and congratulations! Now it's time to hit the weight room and get ready.

Re: New amp purchase... feeling nervous

Will not be moving it anytime soon :)

Last night and today, i spent most of my time on it with my ibby with air norton and super dist pickups — it has really surpassed my expectations with that guitar in particular

Re: New amp purchase... feeling nervous

Thanks, man! So glad i made the right call when deciding to get this amp. The wattage scared me at first, but it’s absolutely manageable.

Re: New amp purchase... feeling nervous

I agree. Honestly i’d say 40%+ is in the hands. Man, i thought it sounded good when i was playing it, but my friend also tried it thurs night. Man, he made it sound 10x better. Makes me keep practicing!

Re: New amp purchase... feeling nervous

Might post some clips later.

Yes, very glad it worked out. The wattage scared me, but really, getting this amp turned out to be one of the greatest decisions in a long while.

Re: New amp purchase... feeling nervous

I think the x2n (top clip) sounds really nice through this amp. Super distortion (not featured in either of the clips) seems to have more high end and cut through a little more. Both sound great, though. Really, though, the super strats in these clips don’t really demonstrate how well the amp responds to dynamics and how rich the transparent tones are. Still like it w/ the super strats, apples and oranges, really.

Re: New amp purchase... feeling nervous

Anyone tried the Fender Tone Master Twin Reverb? High end solid state Fender that allegedly is a spot on emulation of a blackface twin. On-board 5 position attenuation selectable for 1W, 5W, 22W, 40W all the way up to the model correct 85W. Has XLR direct out with cabinet sims for SM57 mic and ribbon mic of amp cab, or you can use the "sterile" line out setting. With the solid state & solid pine cabinetry + special neodymium magneted Jensens, they have the weight for a 2-12 twin down to 33 lbs. I am tempted, reviews I've read say it's a very genuine blackface twin sound and feel. Anyone have experience here? Seems like a great gigging option, and you wouldn't have to risk tubes going south at the least opportune time. Reviews I have read say it's pretty spot on, I mostly am worried it would not be as touch sensitive as say a Deluxe Reverb or full blown twin, which would make it a no...

Re: New amp purchase... feeling nervous

The Tone Masters get great reviews. Seems like a better choice than lugging around 70 lb amp. Some are showing up used for a few hundred less.
