New Amp (trade) Day! Bassman!

Re: New Amp (trade) Day! Bassman!

What's the far field speaker to the left in the last pic?

You mean the silver tower speaker? That's just from my surround sound system. A Polk Audio R... something or other. It's actually my brother's speaker. He moved out of town and left this amazing 5.1 system sitting in storage at my parent's house. I just offered to "store" it at my place.

Re: New Amp (trade) Day! Bassman!

I gotta tell ya. I owned a bassman Mojotone hardwired clone, and it was one amp that sounded great, but definitely was NOT loud enuf IMO.
I think If I coulda had two, that woulda done it.
The cleanish Superreverb I had was blisterinlgy loud, as is any Blackface amp. Tweeds a different story altogether. The Clark Deluxe tweed clone I had , one of the best tweed deluxe Clones made, sounded great as well, just not enough volume, so I sold it. I for sure Shoulda kept it and tried two together.

Re: New Amp (trade) Day! Bassman!

Interesting you say that Jerry - I've never really sat down and spent quality time with a tweed Fender-type amp, so I wouldn't know, but I've never had any problems with my '68 Bassman.

Yes, the 60's amps are superloud! Its cause the edge of the cleanish sound mixed with overdrive.
The tweeds are mostly very fuzzy distortion, lots of spongy sag, so it sounds not as loud. They are very percussive amps, but I found that one tweed amp clone alone didnt give me enough percussion/thump , but it wasnt that far off..thats why I think two may be perfect.
I have heard/played genuine 50's Bassmans before, but its been a long time. I think IIRC they may be be a more dynamic and a more percussiveand maybe plenty loud.

No offense man, but I think this may be one of your senior moments. I remember playing a 59 RI at a GC years ago and it was pretty damn loud.

I dont know man, I run two marshall 100 watt Fullstacks, so I think I might know what "loud" is. lol
I know that can be taken the wrong way. I DID get the "tweed " sound I was after with just a Bassman 4x10 cabinet, so its not the speakers. I got the sound with a cranked Sunn 60watt vintage Amp, so I think basically the old 50's tweed ones might have just a little more percussion, but I think as far as clones goes, the wattage isnt quite there for the big percussive lows that makes me satisfied with the "tweed" sound.

Anyway, Im not going to press the issue anymore. I hope everbody is happy with theior tweed Bassmans they got, im just offering my personal prespective, take it or leave it , no harm, no foul.

My perspective is that I just had a Super Reverb in my house yesterday and now I have a Bassman, so my impressions are pretty recent. Both are pretty ridiculous loud though. I mean, there is no way in hell that I'd be able to turn this thing up into the breakup zone without the rest of the band being run through a powerful PA system. It's ear damage loud.

Then it would have to be way different than my Point to point authentic Mojotone Clone Bassman. And my Clark Tweed Point to point authentic Tweed deluxe clone.
Im of the firm opinion most guys dont really know what true volume is..like for instance, the guy I bought the Shiva from. he didnt turn either amp past one or two, claiming that was "too loud".
Thats the way most guys with families, and nice suburban houses and Apartment dwelelrs are, so I cant really go by yours or anyone elses opinion of "loud", cause were just not on the same page.
I can say the Suerreverb is a LOUD mutherfckin amp, but the Bassman , and not sure about the Fender, but a clone is NOT.

I'm not sure how you could argue that the Super Reverb and Bassman are not of nearly equal volume (Fender reissues). Both are in the 40-50 watt range, and both are loaded with the exact same 4x10" Jensen P10R speakers (they're even the same Fender part #). Could be perhaps the clones you mentioned were loaded with lower wattage or less efficient speakers? All I'm saying is that the Bassman that's sitting across the room from me is blunt force loud at about 5 on the knob.
