New amp

I'm searching the market for a new amp.

I currently play a Marshall 1959 SPL and it's totally killer, but it's just not doing what I need right now:

The tone is great--it's the best tone i've ever had--and the volume is CRAZY, but the channel switching sucks. I have to use a Distortion and EQ pedal to get the tone I like; this makes it very hard to switch from rhythm, to clean, to solo.

I'm looking for an amp that can give me the tone I love and be able to pull off the channel switching I need. And I don't really like 6L6; I'm more of a EL34 guy.

I was looking at VHT Pitbull heads and I was almost sold, but I found it lacking something...
I tried Krank Revoloution 100, but It didn't really do it for me. Has anyone tried the Dimebag head?

Will someone please help me? I don't have a prive limit; I'm willing to spend for great tone.

What was it about those amps that didn't do it for you? Do you want separate channels (or at least boosts) to provide rhythm, clean, and solo modes? It's pretty clear you dig Marshally tones but I'm not sure what you're looking for when you kick in the pedal. A bit more detail about the type of tones you seek would make it a lot easier to provide reasonable suggestions.

I like to get this type of 'sumshiness' from my amp--I'll do my best to describe it:

It's almost like Dimebag's live rhythm tone, but with a Yngwie type lead tone; a main part to this tone is me plugging into the SECOND (top RIGHT) input of my amp. It give this huge, thick tone that is not scooped and cuts through the drummer like a soldering iron through butter.
(I use a Dime distortion in conjuntion with the MXR ten band EQ)

Now the VHT came pretty close, but it just wasn't 'there' for me.
Maybe it was the cab?

Have you tried the H&K Triamp?

There's also the option of setting up a MIDI switching system that will change channels on your amp as well as switching pedals in and out of your signal chain. Not only would you get the channel switching thing down cold but you would avoid having to tapdance over any other stompboxes you might own. Of course, that's halfway to a "rack of doom" (which would be another suggestion).

Take a close look at the Bogner Ubershell, or Shiva. I have p[layed thru the Shiva, and the tone I had heard was incredible!. The clean channel had a Vox AC30 to a twinn versatility, the Drive channel was very much a Plexi, but with the potential of a lot more gain. I have not played thru the Ubershell, but I have heard from some people that have and I have heard nothing but great recommendations for these Amps.

I have a very close friend who owns a Komet. He is a real pro and he has said it is the best sounding Amp he has ever owned. I don't think the Komet is for you. It is really a very loud Amp at 35 watts, but it only has one channel. What you get out of that one channel is nothing short of amazing, but if you need to switch from clean to High gain, it may not be what you are looking for. The Bogner would be a better choice. There are some other boutique builders out there that are making some really fine stuff.

I've tried it and the clean channel sucks, IMO.



I'll have to check into the Bogner, though. I've never tried one.

I'm looking for a thick, heavy chrunch that rips your face off in the right way; leads that just cut your ears; and a clean tone like a "plexi."

I'm using a Plexi right now--I also have to use a Dime Distortion and a MXR EQ to get the gain and tone I like--, but it's hard to do channel switching.
I tried the VHT Pittbull CL head, but it was just missing something.

Well if you are still looking for ideas i guess ill say Laney! Try their Vh100r or their newer head, the TT100. The TT100 has a little smoother tone only from what ive listened, but give them both a shot if you can.

I used to own a Hughes & Kettner Triamp and I think it the amp will cover what you're looking for. I just played one about 10 hours ago and heavy crunch and lead tones are where it excels. The cleans will blow away most multi-channel amps and best of all, they can be found used for around 1k.
