IMG_20210630_153312_847.jpg Just got these in and I plan on putting them in my gibson les paul. I'm using B500k volume pots and A500k tone pots with .022ufd tone caps. I'm undecided if I'm going to use a treble bleed or not. Can I please get some opinions on what pot and cap values you guys would use? Thanks alot.

It's subjective, but 500k with .022uf has pretty much become my go-to values for humbuckers. At the least, it's a good starting point.

If you use a 50 style wiring you do not need bleeders imo. I use my controls to get a more mature sound and get back for full on for lead lines and solo. If you use bleeders, the sound gets thinner if you use the volume pot

One little hint: I love the bridge sound very powerful. I swapped a Unoriented A5 into both of my bridge Ants and a full charged A2 in the neck of a ES 335, a A4 in the neck of a Les Paul.

Those pickups sound just fine without the treble bleed- either in modern or 50s wiring. I like modern wiring, but that is more subjective. As for pots and cap, listen to Artie.

"B" 500K is linear taper, right? Do you plan to use these linear pots because you really want a linear taper response, or just because these are what you happen to have available on-hand? I tried linear taper for volume ctls in the past and felt that the volume change response had a lag. So i went back to using Audio taper (A).

500k and .022 with no treble bleed if it was me. if it was in a tele i might use a 250k tone but in a lp, 500k all the way. i tend to like 50s wiring but thats preference, as is linear vs audio. ive been really liking the mojotone vintage taper pots, they are kinda between linear and audio

Thanks alot you hit the nail right on the head. That's what I was mainly wondering about, what are the sonic effects of using linear taper for volume. It is what I have on hand and it seems like I've heard of people using linear for volume and audio for tone in les paul's. Could use Opinions about using audio or linear taper for volume. Thanks alot.

^ This for me also. The guitar they go in matters in choosing what controls I would use.

I always use linear for volume as I dislike the response of most audio taper pots (which are fake audio tapers using two seperate linear sections). Linear isn't perfect though, just preferable. I also find that different tapers are more suited to clean or distorted sounds; whether you are setting the actual level with a clean tone or using the volume pot to rapidly 'switch' from higain to crunch. Those mojotone pots seem like the best all round solution if they are less severe than the usual taper, provided you like the feel of CTS.

They sound identical, just respond differently. I just use Bourns linear for all volumes I replace because I like the low-friction feel and they work well enough.

Tone controls are always 250-300k no-load audio taper. That gives the best response in my and many others opinion. That might feel wrong to someone that has been using a 50's wired les paul for decades and knows all the sweet spots with that setup.

I don't think you can go wrong with what you have on hand. You can always change it if it lacks in some way.

mojotone vintage taper pots are the specific ones ive been using, i like em a lot
