Just finished laying this down sans vocals... Myself in guitars my son on bass and producing... This also dispels the myth that the JB isn't up to modern metal... MJ wound JB used throughout...

Re: New band track

I just know I know you guys from somewhere. Could we have been on a compilation or something together? Maybe it came up on my search for underground metal. Either way, keep it up and keep it loud.

Re: New band track

Well your in Australia I'm pretty sure it has to be another Black Soul Preacher... Thanks and back at ya brother! \w/

I'll work it out eventually. You're right, the JB is just fine. My Blackjack came with a JB/59 set and it sounded big and heavy straight out of the box and I would switch between that and another, similar guitar with the DD for the tighter and more technical riffs and the Blackjack for when I needed a heavier sound.

That panning stuff in the intro is really trippy through headphones. Cool rhythm tone, sounds really close to Jerry Cantrell's tone on the self titled Alice In Chains album, particularly Head Creeps.

The only criticisms I have if you are open to it is that it's a little bit repetitive which I assume will be improved with the vocals. Perhaps a few more riff changes or a key change in there somewhere would spice things up a bit. You can really fatten the sound up by recording another guitar track playing the same part as the other one and then panning them both left and right respectively.

Re: New band track

The rythm guitars are panned left and right and yes the riff is fairly simple but it there to drive the vocals. I'm also a fan of the Distortion. It was my first after market pickup I put in s Kramer as I'm s big George Lynch fan. The opening effect was done on the G string 14th fret and B string 15th fret double stop. I started with my bar depressed struck the notes slowly bent the A at the 14th fret while raising the bar and slowly pressing down on my wah then a couple of rocks of the wah at the end and had my PCM 41 set to whack out a bit... So I can duplicate the effect live not studio trickery other than the panning... Thanks for the feedback!

It was recorded at home on my sons logic rig only our second attempt at recording we recorded one other song. He also plays the bass in the band but is actually a jazz guitar major at Berklee. There's a cool harmonic minor bass lick but you have to listen for it. I think it's a pretty good effort for a couple of newbies with no pro help.

Re: New band track

For sure man, the art of recording starting from art is a really long journey. I listened to the whole thing so you're doing something right.

Re: New band track

To me it definitely has an 80s metal background mixed with some super dark rhythm. I could listen to it a few more times. Sweet solo as well. Do I hear a George Lynch influence in it? I think I do lol. Super job.

Re: New band track

Thanks for checking it out. Yes George is a big influence so likely something from his style is bound to show through. I must confess I ripped off his "jack off vibrato" but it's fun to do and visually dramatic live! I appreciate the kind comment!
