New Bass Day, The Final Chapter

Re: New Bass Day, The Final Chapter

crap just realized the gotoh bridge I ordered from the link above is literally just the bridge nothing else. Will the stock screws I have now fit properly? And do I need any other mounting items?

Also, I hope the gotoh doesn't mess up my string height....

Most bridge replacements are pretty straightforward. The screws should fit just fine if the holes line up. The string height on the Gotoh should be as adjustable as it was with the old POS Fender bridge.

You shouldn't need any other mounting items per se, but you should take the opportunity to make sure the bridge has a solid ground connection. I use copper tape to make a foundation for the bridge, and solder the ground wire to it. I make sure the tape covers the screw holes, so the screws secure the bridge and the ground.

When you're finished, show us some pictures!

Great looking bass! I love me some P/J action, I have an older Squier version of that same bass that I dropped a set of Lightning Rods into and run at 18 volts.

I just wish they'd build a bass with rear-routed P/J's on a Jazz body with a P neck.

I can dig it. Is that a MIM? I would have gone with a Badass myself, but that Gotoh should do you well. I'm not a huge fan of P pickups usually, but last time I played one of those I was really impressed.

Re: New Bass Day, The Final Chapter

Yes MIM, doesn't really matter. I just can't get into this blizzard pearl color, I regret not getting the red.

Upgraded the nut and bridge to gotoh. I'll be installing the black pick guard, the black pearl pick guard looked absolutely stupid. I'm somewhat tempted to sell this bass, or at least swap body.

Re: New Bass Day, The Final Chapter

Did you get it from Guitar Center? Put the old parts on and take it back and ask for the red one. They should do it.

Check that second link again. It says they're not available. I believe Leo Quan went out of business a few years ago. You can still find Badass bridges on ebay and TalkBass, but I think you're not going to find them in an online music store. Used and NOS (new old stock) are your options.

An argument for tortoise shell:

I added this pickguard to my highway 1 fender P-Bass. Now I'm searching for a pickup and bridge cover to complete the '62 style look. I really dig this one. I think you'd like it too.

Re: New Bass Day, The Final Chapter

Actually had a good trade, long story short, I swapped bodies for a black one. Honestly wasn't digging the blizzard body at all. Just swapped all the electronics, PITA. Ordered the tortoise pickguard. Black body, tortoise pickguard, gonna be sweet.

Re: New Bass Day, The Final Chapter

Here's the transformation. This is much better than the blizzard/gold combination. Blizzard body now for sale
