New Blog: Tips for Recording

Re: New Blog: Tips for Recording

Cover-it-all blog posts on recording are notoriously difficult; the subject is simply too broad to cover in a few hundred words. It is almost better to say, "point the mic until you get a sound you like, and then press record."

I applaude the effort, there are some good tips in there, but it's far too vague. The photo caption features one of my favourite microphones, the Cascape Fat Head, but neglects to mention it has a figure-of-8 pickup pattern where any sound hitting the back of the mic is 180 degrees out of phase with the front, which makes placement in the room very important.

It also totally ignores the way 99.9999% of guitar tracks are recorded today, which is DI and then treated with either amp sims or reamping.

Re: New Blog: Tips for Recording

please comment on the blog itself.

Why? What benefit would I derive from doing that? :scratchch

Apart from anything else, I do not have - and neither would I want - an account with any of the login options.

That was like the 50,000-foot view of recording. Who would be the target audience for something like that? Too general for someone that hasn't recorded, but not really great tips for anyone that has already recorded anything. The first (and I assume most important) step is to watch the bass frequencies?

Mincer - you've been playing a long time and record very well. You could bang out a nice set of guidelines.

I'm not going to comment in the blog itself since I don't want to rain on anyone's parade over there.

I get it, but being critical (in a nice way) or suggesting things on the blogs might help writers in the future. Or suggesting further reading, or other tips. might help the readers.
