Re: new bogner amp - the helios

Hmm.. Gearjonser, so, are you saying it does the tone better than the xtc? I know how much you love yours, so the high praise of the Atma really says something to me.. Does it have a master and get the sound at lower gain? Would you by that instead of the XTC if you were buying today?

I LOVE that hot rodded marshall brown sound.. I dont wanna be a vh clone, ( I sure as heck dont have the chops, but I love the tone. Im an 80s metal guy to the core) So I have a QR. But Ive lusted for a Friedman Brown Eye and an XTC for years. For years I thought the SLO was the dream amp, but Ive gathered from what Ive read over the years that it A) isnt as much of a gain monster as one might think, and B) is best played LOUDER than hell. (as most tube Amps are!) So, I lowered that on my GAS list.

Very, very nice. Reminds me of my old Stiletto but lighter and airier somehow, like the amp is taking a deep breath between each note.

I'm not sure. Given the choice of having a new Helios or keeping my 95 XTC, I'd keep the XTC. The reason is that it can do all the tones the Helios does, but way more, and it's easier to manage the volume.

The handwired Helios shares more in common with other PTP modded Marshalls, meaning it's a freaking loud amp that starts sounding weaker the lower the volume is set. But it's an awesome sounding amp.

I'd love to have the opportunity to put my white chassis 101B next to the Helios in a rehearsal space, turn them both up loud, and see how close I could get them to sound. The XTC blue channel is capable of copping most Plexi's and JCM 800's.

Re: new bogner amp - the helios

Looks like they added the Helios to the Bogner Website

Very interested in this amp, I wonder what the clean channel is like on this thing. Another side question for Bogner owners, do their amps take fuzz/muff pedals well?
