New boogie amp- Filmore 50

Re: New boogie amp- Filmore 50

Not much info. vintage voiced 6L6 powered. Bassman maybe? something fendery. 26 pounds for the head, 45 for the combo. Great to see something different from mesa.

Re: New boogie amp- Filmore 50

Seems fendery for sure, looks fendery but mesa-ish at the same time.
Looks really cool!

Re: New boogie amp- Filmore 50

looks like a cool amp! i like having two similar channels with fully independent controls

Re: New boogie amp- Filmore 50

Yeah! They have gone away from such vintage voiced amps for awhile, so it is nice to see this- a modern Boogie I would actually use. I'd love something like this with 2 sets of power tubes, like 6v6s on one channel and el84s on the other.

I like the idea of a more simple amp from them. I know a lot of musicians that are intimidated by all the options on some of the models.

GET IT . . . and run it in (((stereo)))
Really no point now, my band imploded last weekend, so now I have a pile of amps sitting around my apartment not getting much use. But maybe sometime down the road when they start popping up on the used market.

Oh bugger . . . sorry to hear about your band !

Re: New boogie amp- Filmore 50

That's the way multi-channel amps should be IMO. Two identical channels that can be set differently. Pretty attractive looking amp. I'm in the market for an approximately 50W Mesa amp, but I'm having a hard time deciding between that and a N.O.S. Express Plus 5:50. Over all, the Filmore seems more up my alley, but damn, that 25W class A mode on the Express Plus is just wicked - plus the foot switchable graphic e.q. is a great feature.

You should also look at the Mark V:35. The Fillmore has a lot to offer, but honestly the V:35 with the 4xEL84 Dyna-Watt power has almost the same headroom as the 6L6s in the Express 5:50+, though a different response. You may be able to find close-out prices on Express models, btw.

I should mention that I already own an Express Plus 5:25. It sounds great, but it has been extremely unreliable. I wish I had got the 5:50 instead, but the Plus model wasn't out yet, so there was no 25W class A mode at the time. I ordered a regular 5:25, then the Plus was announced, and they sent me one. When I opened the shipping box was the first time I ever heard about the Plus model! I didn't complain! It's a great improvement over the regular model.

Kinda. They've almost always offered some kind of "budget" amp to compliment their top line Marks and Rectos...like the original Calibers, Dual Calibers, Nomads, et.al. They may not have all the bells and whistles of the big boys, but they are still top quality amps with professional features.
