I don't deny the potential of one of these pedals doing something great for tone, but I just don't see it doing the work of a tube amplifier.

+1 Lets run one into my 6505 and see if it can even manage to get clean. Bah boss is full of ****.

The only thing these will be good for would be running into a dead perfectly clean amp that has some wamness. And even then it'll probably sound cheap and wrong.

Please reread the entire thread. You missed the point, which has been addressed already. It sounds like you tried one based off that last paragraph. I don't mean to flame but you're showing a perfect example of "you can't fix stupid".

For the purpose of direct recording, they seem cooler than a multi-modeler, like the ToneLab I have. Instead of trying to handle 16 amp models, 10 cab simulations, plus layered-up effects, all at the same time, you just treat the pedal's knobs like you would an amp, and you can add effects before or after the little modeler. In this case, any delay or chorus you add after the modeler should sound a little cleaner.

They don't want you to ditch 'em, but I bet if you wanted a little more gain from your BF and retain the Fendery vibe, one of these would do the trick nicely.

Wouldn't a completely transparent boost pedal be far better for that purpose?

-Class me as suspicious yet open-minded. These could be cool pedals in their own right.

As one who loves modeling technology, this is actually my only gripe here. I'll bet dollars to donuts that these, (and any subsequent models to come out), are the exact same circuitry inside, but with different software loaded onto a PROM. Its like making 20 different versions of the J-Station and removing the "selector" switch on them.

Put all the models into one pedal, with one reasonable price. I'd love to hear one of these A/B'd with my "J".

Well first, there's no such thing as a completely transparent boost. Every pedal colors the tone in some way, shape or form. Doesn't matter what it is. It all depends on how well it hides the coloring. A boost out front could serve that purpose but it's not the same as adding another gain stage that has very similar tonal characteristics as the amp it's played through.

For example, I have a Marshall 100 watt head. When I was using regularly, I was using a boost out front, but not just any boost, but one that was designed based on the first gain stage of a Marshall amp. So it was like adding another Marshall gain stage out front, only in a pedal. Sure, it doesn't run at high voltage and it doesn't have a tube, but it has those early stage characteristics and gets the job done. Same thing with these pedals, only complete the rest of it, and make 'em digital.

Just about every post you've ever done I've disagreed with you on, but hell just froze over because I'll actually agree with you here

These are going to be bad marketing gimmicks. Stupid people are going to believe these are actually going to come close to capturing the magic of the actual amps they're modeling and they won't. They can't.

If these pedals use the same technology as the Cube modeling amps (which sound pretty darn good to my ears), they'll probably be pretty decent. I wouldn't expect them to be revolutionary and I'm willing to bet most people will probably say "it's ok for this one application, but worthless for everything else".

In short, don't get excited about it until you hear real actual clips of it in action.

I don't think anyone would be gullible enough to think these pedals will actually replace a vintage '59 Bassman or Deluxe Reverb. Maaaaaybe they will be some fun toys to mess around with to get a different flavor tone from your rigs.

EDIT: Maybe the Deluxe Reverb pedal would give a good reverb option for an otherwise reverb-less amp.

I am sure the Bassman one will make my Blues Jr. sound at least a little more like a Bassman, than just a speaker swop - one mod i still want to do too.

And seeing that my beloved BJr. is a single channel jobbie, this pedal might just be that second channel that i miss sooo much !

Here are simmilar 4x10 Bassman voiced pedlas, and both got the thumbs up from me, and IMHO, well worth the money !

Fender will not put their reputation in Boss's hands if they thought the units sucked !

If they sound good, i will probably end up with both, but lets test them for ourselves first !
