New Boss/Fender pedals: they will sell a ton of these...

Re: New Boss/Fender pedals: they will sell a ton of these...

I don't think anyone would be gullible enough to think these pedals will actually replace a vintage '59 Bassman or Deluxe Reverb. Maaaaaybe they will be some fun toys to mess around with to get a different flavor tone from your rigs.

EDIT: Maybe the Deluxe Reverb pedal would give a good reverb option for an otherwise reverb-less amp.

Yes I am a Fender snob. Don't try to sell one of my beloved Tweeds or Blackface fenders in a freakin box. It just ain't gonna happen. I don't even have to play it to know that it will be nothing like plugging into the real thing!

BAM!!!!!
how do you like that!!! :fingersx:

:chairfall

I don't care if you own 10 of each. They're not meant to sound exactly like the real thing. That's what people don't get. Those things have the COSM technology which is used in the Cube amps, which are actually darn good modelling amps. So yes, those pedals are digital. They're to "emulate" the sound and give it the some of the character of the amp. Not be exact.

And to be honest, as a modelling amp user, I've had folks not even know that my amp was a modeller by the sound. Once you're in a band setting, all those little picky things that many are anal about aren't even noticeable. They're hidden in the mix.

As a DIYer, I'm curious about these. There's a few non-modelling emulations of Fenders I have heard, one by a gentleman in England who did one of a '59 Bassman that's pretty darn convincing. Quite a big build, but it got the job done.

So, you can have your tweeds and blackfaces. That's more of the new stuff for me to play with. ;)

So BAM!!!...how 'bout them apples! :laugh2:

Exactly, Todd. They're not going to replace the amp, but add the flavor. They are "effect" pedals afterall.

Remember the black box named the "Guv'nor"? It was touted as a "Marshall in a box". Sure, it was made by Marshall, but it was "assumed" to sound like a Marshall amp in a box, just like these are. That little black box went on to be a very successful product and loved by many. Today, it's hard to find one for less that $150.

Re: New Boss/Fender pedals: they will sell a ton of these...

It's amazing how quick people are to judge something they never tried.

How many here have tried one? Nobody? I thought so.

It is the snob effect;)

Agree 100% on both counts.

Of course I highly doubt these will magically turn your rig into a vintage tube peice, but if it works out they might be really cool as preamps or gain stages and the like.

If it sounds good, it sounds good. Personally I'm not a fan of BOSS preamps or gain pedals but experience has taught me to not knock it until I try it.

This is pretty much my take as well. I just know how these things tend to come out and some poor soul goes and buys one thinking he will plug it into his 5150 and then have a 65 DR or a 59 bassman.

I agree that it might be fun to toy with one, but I know it won't be a 65 or 59. Will they sound terrible...probably not....is someone like me who passionately loves BF Fenders gonna be ready to ditch his old amp BF Fender....not in your wildest dreams..

Having worked in the accessories department at Guitar Center, I can say with absolute certainty that people ARE that gullible.

Then it's the poor soul's fault for not reading the fine print and understand what an effect pedal does. You can't fix stupid.

They don't want you to ditch 'em, but I bet if you wanted a little more gain from your BF and retain the Fendery vibe, one of these would do the trick nicely.

Well, maybe in California it's true...:laugh2:

Best just to see what the pedals have to offer when they are available? As great as the SFX-03 is,I've not opted to buy that pedal yet...

I'll even let all of you be the pedal testing guinea pigs!:laugh2:

I like that one...... can't fix stupid....

still when it comes to modeling sounds of amps the modelers i've played do High Gain great but Fender sounds poor.... so i will be interested in hearing these pedals but i will not be holding my breath..... if that makes me a gear snob oh well... we all are! :smack:

Re: New Boss/Fender pedals: they will sell a ton of these...

I, for one, want to try one

i just wish you could jump the normal & bright on the bassman pedal ;)

Hmmm, I wonder how hard it would be to add a little toggle switch to do just that. :fingersx:

The problem is that they have alot working against them. They're modeling pedals (strike one) going into an amp that already has its own sound (strike two).

Personally...I think it's a great idea....if it works and sounds good.

Re: New Boss/Fender pedals: they will sell a ton of these...

Right, so these are going to give a Fender clean channel to my JMP 50 are they? Hmm...

But at the same time, modellers have been selling extremely well (single), and Boss has a proven track record for making quality stuff for years (double).

The triple will come if they do sound good. The home run will be how well they do on the market.

:smack: No, they won't. You'd need another channel on your amp for that. These are plain and simple, a Fender-type gain stage to give it some "characteristics" and "flavor" of the amp, not a dead-nuts-on exact sound.

Anybody who thinks that a single pedal is going to make brand ABC sound exactly like brand XYZ is kidding themselves.

Re: New Boss/Fender pedals: they will sell a ton of these...

Good guitarists will sound good with those boxes.

The pedals look interesting, I confess!

Yeah thats what I mean, but I would imagine that a whole load of people are being led to believe thats what thsese things do.

There probably are, but as a player, you (meaning anybody) should take the responsibility to know and understand what they do and what they are. Like I said in a previous post, you can't fix stupid. That's on the same road as saying that playing an EVH Art Series guitar is going to make me sound like EVH. We know that ain't gonna happen. :)
