I effed up a lot along the way and learned a fair amount of "what NOT to do" type crap on the road to 3 sweet new custom axes. so any questions welcome!

Sorry 56k KILLER!! (does anyone really still have that?)

This is my first go around at cutting my own bodies after 2 assemblies that turned out great. The necks are warmoth (i have some nice flamed maple to try necks next) but i will roll the edges tweak the contours, finish them & do the fret/nut work that needs to be done.

i am almost done with the mcfadden/preval nitro clear coats and will start the neck finishing while the gtrs cure...

OMG!!! They've got holes in them!!! :D They look fantastic. I'd love to be in a position to build my own guitar bodies.

That's pretty cool. Strat necks, like Clapton's Blind Faith era Tele, eh ;)? What kinds of tonescapes are you hoping to cover with all these, given the contrasting pickup styles each guitar is going to have?

Can't believe no one's jumped in yet and said at least one of them needs a Floyd Rose :D.

Thanks for all the kind words!

I will probably floyd up the next one I do as it has been years since I had a floyded gtr and it's about time for another one.

The red one is getting a hot rails bridge and phat cat neck & is being built for a friend in France.
Black gets an invader bridge and aphII neck for another buddy here in L.A.
And the "burst" one is getting a set of hot p90s. &that one is for me.

Did you fabricate or purchase the templates for pup and neck routes?

I bought some fiberboard templates from guitarbuildingtemplates and some plexiglass from stewmac.. i will make myself a set of more substantial templates from those before i get to the next batch.

the oversize neck template from stewmac is a bit of a stupid design choice although it does work fine for a tight fit if you wrap a layer of tape around your router bearing. I found exactly 2 wraps of gorilla tape did the trick nicely but its still stupid compared to having the template the proper size to begin with!

you gotta love turning lumber into axes!!!! dam i miss it... i wish i had a place to make some dust out of tone woods again and make me some more axes....

+1 man, What I wouldn't give for a shop, some alder, maple, rosewood, and mahogany...

yeah...I just may have to make another, I like the idea of a P90 neck and HB bridge. pixel is havin' way too much fun! hehe

haha you bet! final nitro coats went on tonight.. start on the necks tomorrow..

it has been so dry lately avg. 30% humidity I'm hoping these things cure quick.. I WANT TO PLAY THEM!!!

You do know nitro is painfully slow curing...talk about watching paint dry...or grass grow. Patience is a virtue....

are they all ash? ... the grain pattern on the red and burst ones are esepcially happenin

what kinda total finished weight are you lookin at for these?
