New Build by a Newbie need Suggestions

Re: New Build by a Newbie need Suggestions

If you really want high-output stuff in the middle and neck positions, get one that has lots of treble in it like a Distortion or Full Shred. I have a FS bridge model in the middle of my BB3(mahogany body and rosewood neck) and it sounds absolutely BEAUTIFUL when paired up with the bridge Invader. It adds a wee bit of mids and compensates the highs the Invader lacks. Full Shred bridge for middle way to go if you're into metal stuff.

Well I can't say I am into metal yet, but yes that is what I was thinking. To offset the mahogany & rosewood mellowness go with something that leans towards the highs and midtones. It has just been that I am so new to it all that I am trying to learn at 100 miles per hour without actually playing. All I have right now is a Martin D-16GT, I am building my first electric.

Thanks for the feedback !

Some people hate a JB in Mahogany but it is a great lead pickup, can sound peiring to my ears with a Maple board but not with Rosewood...so there is another option for the brigther tones (Dimebucker/Bill Lawrence L500's are on the clear, articulate, brighter tones as well.)

Martin acoustics are awesome but you need an electric now ;)

I had originally wanted to put in the SH4, SH5, SH6 and emailed SD and asked in what positions they recommend putting them in... here is their response;

Hello,
I would put the SH-5 in the neck, the SH-4 in the middle and the SH-6 in the bridge. Unfortunately we don't have any wiring diagrams for 3 humbucker at the moment.
Hope this helps

Well as it turns out they do have a 3 HB diagram, it is just for mini-HB's and it will work fine for the full size HB's.

A JB in the middle? That would be interesting to hear!

Like I said that was their suggestion... I may just go that route and try it. What the heck... I sent you two PM's.

They would know more than me lol I've just never heard of a JB in the mid. lol If you buy new and don't like it then you have I believe like 30 days guarantee with SD to swap it out for a different pickup. If you buy used then you can always post it to sell or trade.

Got your PM's and replied :)

Re: New Build by a Newbie need Suggestions

I'm doing a pickup swap too currently, my first one.

I'm putting in a hot rails in the neck, nothing middle and 59' trembucker for the bridge.

First time using SD so i'll keep you posted how it goes!

What's a good example of a good middle humbucker tone? I'm serious. I don't know many tones that involve a middle position humbucker nor have I had much experience middle position HB's either.
