So, here's the one I built for my bday...
Apparently I'm into high-gain builds these days.
This is a Dr. Boogie revision 2 (by gauss markov).
Biasing the jfets is a bit of trouble. The recommended 4.5v (half the supply voltage) isn't quite possible with all jfets. They are so variable that biasing Q1 to that level lead to some pretty intense squealing, even after subbing it for all my other 40 something remaining jfets. So it's biased quite lower and the pedal still sounds great. There's probably a bit more tweaking to do to remove a bit of shrillness that I hear in the higher frequencies but that's basically all. I'm assuming biasing by ear is a bit more efficient in the end.
This is my first build with shielded wires. The pedal is very quiet once the bias voltage had been lowered on the first jfet.
Very cool pedal. So far I find it's more "recto-like" than the triple-wreck. Both are great high-gain pedals but the boogie has more of that mid-grit that I hear in boogies.
Red led. Fitting 6 pots and making things look clean is always a bit of a challenge but I think I pulled it off rather well.
I couldn't resist and put the sticker on the back (have a look at the fourth pic).
Cheers!
