Re: New Carvin Jason Becker Model OMGAW

I really have no idea about Hurricane's history. They seem to have been awesome guitars though.

Re: New Carvin Jason Becker Model OMGAW

Hurricane Guitars were a Lotus brand. They weren't much better than other low-end superstrat knockoffs like Series 10.

A friend of mine had one, and all I can say about it is that it was a piece of ****. I couldn't imagine Jason and Marty seriously playing these things. At least not the regular production models.

Re: New Carvin Jason Becker Model OMGAW

The "real"one IMO was one of the best shredder guitars ever built by any body at any price. The only other neck that I would put in the same category would be the 08 Washburn USA HM series guitars with the Parker board and the SS jumbos.
I still own this one from 1990.

This guitar has the best single neck I have ever played and is SO feather light it feels like a toy but SCREAMS!!!

Is the neck on this similar to the WM526? My 526 has a super fast neck, but its a tad wider than Im comfy on

Re: New Carvin Jason Becker Model OMGAW

With Carvin so close to me here in southern Califonia I have auditioned their stuff many times and liked thier guitars always .

I own a Carvin ( was then ) a hybrid X-60 guitar amp ( 60 watts 1X12" ) , with a tube front end as well as the power outputs . It also has ss modeling capabilities too , not bad for an amp about 20 years old !

I am lookiing at the NS-1 nylon electric acoustic - midi , it is really beautiful to look at ( and they do have some variety in the models looks too ) and plays super nice . Workmanship is second to none at the price it's sold .

¿ ¡ Discicions discisions discisions discisions discisions discisions
discisions discisions discisions discisions discisions discisions ! ?

¿ Looks like you seem to like Carvin ?

Heh heh heh .

Re: New Carvin Jason Becker Model OMGAW

Here's a link with a Hurricane guitar. Notice the bridge is the same as Marty's in the advertisement. I have seen this same bridge on a number of cheap 1980's superstrat knockoffs.

Here are Series 10's from the same time and they use the same bridge. I think Charvette used them too?

I'd imagine they were either heavily modified or ghost builds.

That's what I figure. While it's true, that a good guitarist could play any guitar, I just couldn't see a pro seriously using one of their stock guitars. The one I played was THAT bad.

Re: New Carvin Jason Becker Model OMGAW

That Hurricane ad used to be everywhere, yet I never saw one of their guitars anywhere.

A lot of dudes had Series 10's though, and they pretty much blew. It was the standard beginner setup to have a Series 10 and a Crate practice amp.

Re: New Carvin Jason Becker Model OMGAW

I tell you what: on a good day, the few of them I played (Applause by Ovation, but they may as well have been the same plywood junk with sweet crackle paint) played like champs. Touch that bar, though, and all bets were off. I might not be a shredder but those things were unadulterated bull****, same as the Hondo ads calling out Dimarzio pups in the late 70s. Junk is junk is junk.

Re: New Carvin Jason Becker Model OMGAW

I wanted to bring this back to the top. Carvin is now offering that you can order the Seymour Duncan Perpetual Burn pickup in the Becker model!!! $50 upcharge! This is the first time that Im aware of (and Ive gotten their catalogs for years and years) that they have offered a pickup option other than Carvin. Id love to play one of these.

Re: New Carvin Jason Becker Model OMGAW

can probably get a pre-owned PB for $50 these days. seems to have lost steam pretty quick

Re: New Carvin Jason Becker Model OMGAW

It's probably a tightly focused market. Of which I'm theoretically a part.

On the market already? Would enjoy that combination.....gotta look out for that one!

Yeah, but the point is: Carvin has NEVER offered another brand of pup in thier guitars. AND: $50 is pretty cheap for a new pup, installed, in a new guitar.... just sayin.

Back when I used to frequent the Carvin board, (and other forums) one big gripe is that people used to wish they could get other pups in carvin guitars. Not saying they are opening up to that, but I think its a pretty big step
