New Charvels at namm!!!!!!!!!

Re: New Charvels at namm!!!!!!!!!

Not that I am in the market for one of Roger's basses, but he does not notch the board so it hides it very well.

No interest in EBMM with or without a truss wheel.

Makes no difference to me as I have plenty of Charvels and not in the market. I just hate watching as Fender makes blunder after blunder with such an iconic brand. My fear is Fender will eventually scuttle the brand and "we tried".

Re: New Charvels at namm!!!!!!!!!

I dig the colors.

I have wanted a Charvel for years. I picked up a new San Dimas Pro Mod in burnt orange last month. It was a great looming, decent sounding guitar. But the action couldn't be lowered to a playable height for me. So I sent it back. Replaced with a U.S. Schecter Traditional strat. It's awesome.

Re: New Charvels at namm!!!!!!!!!

The only new ones I think are the gold hardware and the one in burned finish. The ones with quilted maple are reminiscent of the Wild Card series from 2010, and the rest are from 2011 Japan era.

I would definitely feel a sense of insecurity playing that Lynch-knockoff tiger stripe.

My experience with the So Cal has been a bad one. The neck won't stay straight, even with 3 full clockwise turns, thanks to the all-maple neck/ fretboard.

So Charvel? Nein, danke.

That is unusual for quartersawn necks. You may be able to warranty that.

Let me clarify: The entire neck is one piece, the neck is also the fretboard; no joint that should've compensated for any bow due to temperature changes. So I think it is obvious.

In fact, a few fret wires have actually protruded along the edge.

Re: New Charvels at namm!!!!!!!!!

More like 1 new, the dk24, although they did a black version with red pickups a year or so ago. It's what the motocross guys call BNG (bold new graphics).

That said, I like the natural okoume DK24, might check one out when they hit stores.

LOL!!! BNG indeed! If you follow mx, Suzuki had been doing the BNG thing for years.. Finally updated the bike, but its still a turd.

Suprisingly, I kinda like the first light blue one! I wanted one with the black quilt top a year or so ago when they first came out.
Looks like gold hardware is the BNG Charvel is rolling out...

I REALLY wanted one of the black 24 fret ones with the red dimarzios. But the Cash Gods weren't smiling down on me..
Kinda like the new 24 fretter, cept the gold hardware.

Im wondering how much $$ Satchel scored to drop the Kramer endorsement??

Re: New Charvels at namm!!!!!!!!!

Any new for this year's NAMM? I love the looks of their guitars – how they can make pointy guitars without them being metal clichés – and in particular the St. Vincent model, which is the signature of an artist I know absolutely nothing of. They also seem to have good features, and to be well made. If they offered anything with a Floyd Rose I would seriously have considered it.

Most of my guitars are heel adjust and it is not a problem. In fact, I don't even remember the last time I had to adjust one of my Charvels.

I don't know how much seasonal variation there is in Atlanta, but in MN I can depend on needing to adjust the truss rod on my guitars twice per year.

Actually, quite a few new things this year. I think they have a new Sterling Axis with a Floyd. A few Sterling Albert Lees, which are new. And a whole host of Stingrays.

Not that i'm against the truss rod wheel per se, but i wonder what the problem was with adjustment at the headstock. Seems pretty ideal to me...

Huh, all Charvel maple boards are one piece necks. What does that have to do with relief?

Then they wouldn’t be Charvels

Maybe so, but what about Fender?

Re: New Charvels at namm!!!!!!!!!

That is sort of my point. If someone wants a vintage spec Strat or Tele, then you have to accept some of the quirks.

Stop trying to make Charvel something it is not.

Re: New Charvels at namm!!!!!!!!!

Are we still talking about the improved truss rod? Geez, talk about overreaction…

Could you explain how it's an improvement over Fender headstock adjustment?

Or is it just used on "vintage" models even though it's completely different from old school heel adjustment? Confused here

We get snow to Southern humidity. I would sell a guitar that needed adjustments that often. Think about it, there are vintage Fenders that have never had the neck adjusted.

I don’t believe anyone is overreacting to anything.

Headstock adjustments have always been tricky with Floyd Roses, since you not only have a string tree in the way, but also a locking nut that is considerably larger and generally sits somewhat deeper than an ordinary nut. Under such circumstances, one either has to make a tilt-back headstock, which allows for the truss rod to protrude further out but brings its own set of problems; have a truss rod that sits deeply into the neck, and requires special tools and bring along problems of its own; or, worst of all, put the adjustment screw inside the neck pocket, as Leo Fender originally did.* With the spoke wheel, making adjustments without having to do any sort of disassembly and any sort of special tools becomes possible.

This isn't the only way to achieve this: Warmoth lets you adjust their necks on the lower side of the neck pocket, that is, where you'd hold your hand when playing on the uppermost frets.

*: There are supposed to be Floyd Rose nuts that are made for accommodating the bullet type found on some strats, but I have never seen one.
