New Charvels

Re: New Charvels

Same mistake all over again.

"Debacle" because it diluted the brand and eventually killed it.

EMG's because most of the younger players checking out a "badass" guitar are expecting flamethrower pickups, and if they hear any other kind of sound out of it, the guitar will be quickly dismissed at "lame", "weak", "junk", "crap".

whats sad, is on one hand, I have to give credit for offering a NAME Brand Pup as opposed to the boo whatever whatever pickups...... But, for a Charvel, load it with a JB / 59 or............ Cuz the Jb ruled the 80s. Or even a CrAP passive brand.. so we can upgrade..

Re: New Charvels

This is worse than the Charvel model series debacle of the mid to late 80s. At least the model series sort of followed the Charvel formula.

i know 2 people with so cal charvels and my model 6 blows their guitars away.

i always wanted a charvel star like what chris holmes played. i have these old magazines (i think kerrang?) where chris holmes talks about lending his Harley Davidson one to EVH so he could record on Van Halen II with it.

Re: New Charvels

The stars are cool, and I'd hella buy one if I had the scrill, but I agree, should be a flat mount floyd and 22 frets.

I HATE abalone on anything, ugh. I don't know who likes that ****.

Re: New Charvels

Pierre, back then, the model series was considered sacrelidge cuz the "american hot rods" were being mass produced in Japan. Lucky for us, the Japanese made amazing guitars!! But still, the idea was not well rec'd. Same with Kramer and the Focus series. (even tho ESP were ghost making many "american" models. )

it was shortly after that they both went downhill and were getting made cheap and everywhere.

I do like the look of the Star, but I dont like the desolation series as a whole because as Mike said, they are already cheapening the name and all . The first couple of runs were US production. Got us primed and excited and brought the brand back.. Then they went to Japan.. Still well made. but didnt take long to who-- em out to the masses

That's fair enough. I was born in 1986 so I may have been too young to judge what people thought of the move when it happened... in 1986.

Re: New Charvels

I'm not sure what the point of the strats are... they're just jacksons with a different logo.
The stars are pretty funky mind and the recessed trems and twenty four frets doesn't bother me in the slightest... but why not just get a jackson.
I'd buy another pro mod over any of these, but the oil finished neck could swing the vote if it was between one of these or a Jackson or an Ibanez.
Only EMG's does seem a bit limiting mind.

Dont get me wrong tho, the model series are GREAT guitars and Japanese quality.. People were just upset with the overseas move.

Re: New Charvels

The model series were fine, inexpensive guitars. However they were no more Charvel than this current load of ****.

Re: New Charvels

Yeah, this was not a good idea.
They had a really cool thing going with the strat headstock guitars until this latest batch of whatever the hell it is

Re: New Charvels

14 year olds and people in "_____"-core bands...

but why not just get a jackson.

Feeling a bit discriminated here : private: . I do am in a "___"-core band and I am looking to change my Schecter Hellraiser Tempest because I kind of dislike the Fatty and sticky-finished neck paired with the EMGs...

So this is why I am looking at one of these and I actually tried it and the oiled neck felt so awesome! I am not a fan of the abalone, but it's not stabbing my eyes with katanas yet. I think this is the only model with blackouts and it would be the perfect fit for me as I love this volumes/tones setup.

You hate these that much because of the serie's name...? :dot:

Re: New Charvels

I love stars, but the strat headstock on the old Charvel's just look really, really stupid on them to me.
I love pointy stocks and all. I do think the strat shapes look cool with the strat stock. That's how they started as hopped up strats. However, the poiny body of the star needs a pointy stock. Just like I always loved Akira's esp star except that stupid stubby bland stock.

Re: New Charvels

For some reason I like those Charvel Soloists bettter that the Jacksons. To me they look more right.

Re: New Charvels

regarding the stars with one passive pickup and floyds:

BooHeung BO-102JB Humbucking Pickup (Bridge)

WHAT THE HELL IS THAT? some sort of korean knock off of an HB102??
More likely the direct manufacturer of the Duncan Designed HB102, without any Duncan licensing fees to pay.

All I know is that the blue smear color makes me smear my pants!

Re: New Charvels

Classic Charvels? Nope. Cool guitars? Yup.

I don't have a neckthru or a Floyd... I love the feel of Jazzmasters.. i could see myself diggin a flat nlack oil neck Skatecaster... I'd still want a Model 2 tho.
