New Clip "Hot Wings"

Re: New Clip "Hot Wings"

Just listened to the clip again! Again, amazing tone. I was wondering about the amp too. A good Boogie can save a player big money, without going on expensive o/d, distortion box quests, imo!

Re: New Clip "Hot Wings"

Thanks guys ...

Speaking about the amp/speaker combo ...

In my younger days, I played a lot of good guitars (mostly LPs) and good amps (Ampeg, Fender, Music Man, Marshall). Two 4x12s ... it was insane. I struggled with tone. Sound man hated me. A guy finally showed me how to install a master volume on the Marshall and things got better. Went to 2x12.

But I found this 1x12 amp back in '78 (Santana & Larry Carlton influence) and I was hooked. There's some things it can't do ... BUT not much that I want to do. I know guys with some of the later model Mesas talk about constantly dialing them in. It took a couple of months to transition from the Marshall to the Boogie. But after that, I've gone years without changing most of the knobs. If you set the amp to really be smooth when full up ... you can easy off and get smooth jazz or backing tones ... with just a little edge. You can put OD pedals in front of it if you need something with a real hard metal edge BUT it's not the style I play. Also the EVM12L just doesn't break up ... which gives the rig an interesting tight sound. It's fun to watch guys with the 4x12 cabs just look at it an shake their heads. Recently, I bought a 2x10 eminience cabinet that does break up. It's an interesting change ... but for so long the EVM ... just fits.

In '80 I traded my LPs for a Yamaha SA2000 semi-hollow body that can do a lot of things when paired with that Boogie. Then I didn't change my rig for 25 years. I was a gear HO in my early years ... so I would have not predicted that outcome.

Finally, a couple of years ago, I began collecting & modifying several guitars ... Strat, Schecter (Tele), G&L Legacy (Strat), & two Washburns (HB & P90). Gave the Strat to my son. But I can get a lot of sounds out of these 5 styles guitars and this one amp. The P90 style was the "missing link".

Pretty satisfied ... I'm a lucky man. I just need more talent ... the gear is fine. :)

Re: New Clip "Hot Wings"

True, on EVM-12L. I am but a hobbyist, and I used a single openback Fender cab/EV-12L for years (maybe 1989?, after I sold off a 4x12) until this year! The same EV is now top percrhed in the cab listed in my sig.
